Counterpoint: The Trump regime will not in fact have any β€œnew objective” tomorrow as they don’t have actual objectives today - because they are completely incapable of that kind of rational thought process.

Evidence: *points at everything*.

AFAIK, no journalist has asked any apparatchik of the Trump regime whether they would rule out the use of nuclear weapons in this war.

And if they did I think I can accurately predict the answer.

The US Navy escorted tankers back in the 80s. When Iran and Iraq were targeting each others tankers.

So not quite β€œ70 years”.

More like 30 years..

Dunno. And I think the crucial point is that I think the US government has as little idea of the answer to this question as you and I do.

Which is to say, none.

If you accept the evidence of Trump and Hegseth’s claims..

..have the sovereign capability to print money and effectively offer insurance at any price down to β€œfree”.

This sounds great except for what it will do to inflation and bond rates..

Which is why they limited it to $20b..

This assumption is β€œtrue” but for bad reasons unfortunately.

Private institutions (insurance companies) do not have unlimited capital or borrowing capacity which is why insurance cover is suspended or even cancelled and premiums have spiked.

Public institutions (The US government here) OTOH..

It depends what sort of control you’re talking about?

It’s still a country that has a working military..

When I was a kid in Dubai I got taken for a visit to Dubai Port (well, the dry dock facility) and a relative who worked there was showing me the hole an Iraqi Exocet missile had made in a tanker that was in for repairs.. (from the dockside).

Pretty amazing at the time to see..

ABC News: β€œThe IDF claims it has destroyed a military command and control bunker in Tehran”.

Let me stop you right there.

The IDF makes lots of claims. Amazing claims. Many claims that are later proven to be false.

So I don’t have too much faith in anything the IDF β€œclaims”.

Iran says will attack any ship trying to pass through Strait of Hormuz Ebrahim Jabari, a senior adviser to the IRGC's commander-in-chief, reiterates that the Strait of Hormuz is 'closed'.

Uhm, that’s not quite what Iran has said but from a different context (is IRGC β€œIran” or not? 🀷🏾).

Any basic search - including actual posts on the ADF careers website - will explain that ADF sailors are integrated into submarine operations when serving on US subs.

It’s literally the whole point.

Pretty amazing that Albanese insists Australians serving about US submarines are really just passengers.

They have no roles or work or anything to do with the submarine.

They are just present and it’s more like a β€œcruise” for them.

Who knew?

Trump and the US send such confusing signals.

On the one hand it’s β€œdrill baby drill” and on the other hand reducing global fossil fuel supply by 14% in a week?

What message is being sent here exactly? πŸ€”πŸ€·πŸΎ

The rest of the world doesn’t spend as much on its military as the US does (on any bloc basis).

The rest of the world doesn’t have nuclear weapons which they have used on civilian populations unlike the US - who most likely would be prepared and willing to do so again.

In a β€œplausible” way.

Much is being made of the economics of war where β€œThe US is using $1m missiles to shoot down $20k drones”

Sure.

Want to take a wild guess who is paying for the $1m missiles?

Who is going to get the contracts for manufacturing replacement munitions?

It isn’t even a conspiracy theory..

US House rejects bid to curb Trump's war powers on Iran Democrats have questioned whether the US faced the kind of "imminent" threat from Iran that would legally allow the president to take military action on his own.

The media reporting continues to be hilarious that we are meant to think any of these people are serious or have any intention of telling β€œthe truth” as opposed to just making it up as they go along.

Nice to see that the US learned the lessons of Pearl Harbour and no longer thinks it’s any sort of big deal (or holds it against Imperial Japan) because doing the same type of thing using the US Navy is clearly OK..
