Landed in South Africa this week for the start of a 3 month placement and started with some amazing wildlife around Cape Town before travelling to Gqeberha for the bulk of the placement period
I don't have immediate access to preserved Emperor penguin feet, but one reference I found listed their foot length as ~10.5cm, which works to about a UK child's shoe size of 0.

I am very happy to announce that my first PhD paper has been published today at the Journal of Animal Ecology!!!
It is on how three penguin species have been shifting their breeding times in Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic in response to climate change. They are the fastest birds in doing so!

Great to present again at UKIRSC! This was the first conference I went to in the first year of my PhD, and was a great experience to be on committee for the past two years. Would recommend to any ECR working with marine mammals in the UK!
This one was a marathon effort! We compared estimates of body condition change against a suite of dive metrics from >600 elephant seals to understand how these animals modify their dive behaviour when foraging successfully... (1/4)
