A symbiotic binary star. The structure resembles a cozy sweater with a red body, and blue wooly arms opened wide. The object is centered and take up about a third of the image horizontally. The background of space is black and dotted with distant stars and galaxies.

Appearing like a cosmic sweater, symbiotic binary star R Aquarii is seen in a combination of X-ray and visible light, including visible light from Hubble.

"Who is This For?" asked Second Wind's The Backdrop.

It's for 2.1 million people, which is more people than Strange New Worlds is for.

A person stands in the distance on a snowy landscape shining a flashlight on the ground. Trees and snow capped mountains are on the horizon. In the starry sky above, several iconic red nebulas are visible. Please see the explanation for more detailed information.

β€œWhile small compared to Taylor Sheridan series, it is above the full season averages for the recent, notable Star Trek series Strange New Worlds S2 and Picard S3.”

USS Excelsior delivers Dr. Rosalind Lear and Ensign Tuvok to Ceti Alpha V in search of historical records of the exile of Khan Noonian Singh.

Blender render inspired by the excellent Star Trek: Khan audio drama, which I have just started listening to.

Very faint planetary nebula Abell 7 is about 1,800 light-years distant. It lies just south of Orion in planet Earth's skies toward the constellation Lepus, The Hare. Posing with scattered Milky Way stars, its generally simple spherical shape about 8 light-years in diameter is revealed in this deep telescopic image. The beautiful and complex shapes seen within the cosmic cloud are visually enhanced by the use of long exposures and narrowband filters that capture emission from hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Otherwise Abell 7 would be much too faint to be appreciated by eye. A planetary nebula represents a very brief final phase in stellar evolution that our own Sun will experience 5 billion years hence, as the nebula's central, once sun-like star shrugs off its outer layers. Abell 7 itself is estimated to be 20,000 years old. But its central star, seen here as a fading white dwarf, is some 10 billion years old.

Social media is essential for outreach and communication. So why should a single bad actor be able to destroy it? πŸ”β˜„οΈ

We don't think that should be the case, and that's why we're building The Astrosky Ecosystem - starting with the Astronomy feeds.

We now have a paper about our project! #astrocode

As a 90s Star Trek fan who had to put up with a LOT of "DS9 isn't REAL STAR TREK!" I find it especially offensive when the twerps use DS9 to justify their hate campaigns against the new shows.

"DS9 established there are no female Jem'Hadar!"

That was 800 yrs ago. This is sci-fi. Stuff happens

A thin, light-blue–green crescent, against the utter blackness of space.

I think this is a haunting image.

It's Uranus, the giant seventh planet in the Solar System, photographed by Voyager 2 on the outbound part of its flyby on 25 January, 1986.

Out there in the dark.

Waiting.

It’s funny hearing Boomer Trekkies complain β€œwho is Starfleet Academy even for?” while my comments are full of young folks saying it’s their 1st Trek & they love it. They're just upset it's not Trek targeted at them (when they're not in my comments going OH YOURE TRANS ITS MADE FOR YOU CAUSE WOKEEE)
