I know what you mean! The white-breasted Nuthatches who visit my feeder are definitely like that! The Chickadees are deferential to them at the feeder. This Red-breasted Nuthatch is surprisingly polite.

A Red-breasted Nuthatch perches on a branch
This Red-breasted Nuthatch is much more shy and elusive than it's larger, white-breasted cousins. It makes infrequent visits to the feeder, dutifully waiting for a turn, then quickly plucking a seed, and never staying for longer than a few seconds. #birds #wildlifephotography #canada #parrysound
A Chickadee leaps from a birch tree
A Black-capped Chickadee shot from an unusual angle, making it look like they're base jumping from the birch tree #birds #photography #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #canada #ontario #parrysound #winter
A Black-capped Chickadee perches on a branch, while another Chickadee spreads its wings in the background
'Spirit Of The Chickadee' ... this was a happy accident while I was trying to photograph Black-capped Chickadees in flight ๐ธ #photography #birds #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #canada #ontario #parrysound
Puffed up Chickadee perched on a branch 1/2
Puffed up Chickadee perched on a branch 2/2
Black-capped Chickadees puffed up to stay warm. Cropped to 16x9 so I could use them on my frame TV. #birds #wildlifephotography #canada #parrysound #ontario #winter #forest #SamsungFrameTV #SamsungArtTV #ArtMode
A Whitetail doe looks in the direction of the camera during golden hour in the snowy forest, while a second doe watches closely from the shadows
Coldest day of the year so far. -16C when I was out for a hike first thing this morning. A small herd of Whitetail deer surprised me, and I surprised them, as I was preoccupied with a Chickadee in a nearby tree. #wildlifephotography #photography #snow #canada #ontario #parrysound #forest #winter
Very nice. I haven't seen this one before but I love the dawn redwood in High Park

A white tail buck crosses during morning golden hour. Long shadows stretch across the road in front and behind him.
It's deer hunting season for just a few more days here in Northern Ontario. This White Tail Buck has done well to last this long, but he is not helping his chances by crossing the road during morning rush hour. #wildlifephotography #deer #naturephotography #whitetaildeer #canada #parrysound
Great framing!
Dusk descends on cattails in a marsh on Halloween night. In the background the last pink daylight sinks behind green conifers
Blue hour over the wetlands. Oct 31, 2025. In the foreground there is an abandoned beaver dam that has mostly dried out now. In the background, the last light of the sun sinks behind conifers. #landscapephotography #photography #parrysound #Canada

Painted Suillus - a yellow mushroom with a stem covered with burgundy spots and a fuzzy looking burgundy cap about 5cm in diameter, emerging from a lichen-covered tree trunk, and arching upwards
This Painted Suillus is apparently edible, although don't take my word for it (I didn't try it). Suillus are part of a unique genus within the Bolete family. This is the only one of these species I've found on the property. #fungifriends #fungi #mycology #naturephotography #parrysound #canada

Close-up of a Black Bear on my hillside trail camera from the Spring. I think this is a male, as it's quite large and alone (no cubs). I also caught it from farther away on a nearby trail camera. #bears #wildlifevideo #trailcam #naturevideo #blackbear #parrysound #canada
Focus stacked these two specimen from the genus Pluteus (I think) - commonly referred to as Deer Mushroom. Mycologists, please correct me if I'm wrong. Found in a swampy area, under a pine forest in the Muskoka Lakes area. #fungifriends #fungi #mycology #naturephotography #parrysound #canada

A Red-eyed Vireo perches on a branch and sings, with its white throat puffed out to project its notes into the sky
Note the powerful throat structure that allows this tiny Red-eyed Vireo to sing so loudly and persistently, all day long ๐ฃ๏ธ ๐ถ #birds #birding #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #parrysound #canada

A female Sandhill Crane in long grass lowers her body and spreads her wings as a threat display
A male Sandhill Crane stands guard with his nestlings hidden in the long grass nearby
A pair of Sandhill Cranes in the field. One of them, likely the female, does a crouch threat display to warn me away from their nest. I could hear the nestlings but I couldn't see them in the long grass. #birds #birding #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #canada #parrysound
A Tree Swallow perches on a branch and looks over its shoulder at the camera
Tree Swallows are just tiny penguins that learned to fly. #birds #birding #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #canada #parrysound
A Cedar Waxwing perches on a branch
An ear-full of ten or more Cedar Waxwings descended on a copse of trees in front of our house this morning. Yes, a group of them is actually called an 'ear-full', perhaps because their call is a distinctive high-pitched zip. #birds #birding #wildlifephotography #parrysound #canada
A Gray Catbird perches on a branch in the dense shrubs around a marsh
Parasitic egg-laying fascinates me for some reason. The Gray Catbird is one of the few birds who can recognize and will eject the eggs of Brown-headed Cowbirds - a notorious parasitic egg-layer - when found in its nest. #birds #birding #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #canada #parrysound

A Yellow Warbler perches on a branch on the edge of the beaver pond
A Magnolia Warber perches in a tree, surrounded by blossoms
A Nashville Warbler perches on a low branch in the forest
The Warbler frenzy continues! Three more spotted last weekend: a Yellow Warbler, a Magnolia Warbler and a Nashville Warbler. I'm not keeping score or anything but actually I am and that's eight Warblers this month! #birds #birding #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #parrysound #canada #warblers
A Sandpiper holds its left leg up in a stepping motion, with the other leg submerged in shallow water of a marshy shoreline. Its likeness is reflected in the water's calm surface, which is punctuated with fallen red blossoms.
There was something uniquely 'zen' in the way this Solitary Sandpiper delicately high stepped in the shallow, muddy shore of the beaver pond. It has only ever appeared in May and always stays in the same corner of the pond. #birds #birding #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #parrysound #canada

An adult male Pine Warbler perches on a branch
A noisy Pine Warbler. I can hear them singing all day but they're usually so far up in the canopy of the big pine trees it's hard to get a good shot. This one came down to eye level, but only for a moment. #birds #birding #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #canada #parrysound
