The only man who can help her save her sister is the criminal she left in jail the last time they met.

"The humour and romance in these books make it easy to overlook how very clever the plots are."

This is just another example of the thirst for drama that now infects political journalism like a plague at the expense of actual analysis, reporting and holding power to account. Rigby is one of the worst offenders, too

The Devil arrives at Charring Cross station on Christmas Eve. His purpose on that holiest of nights, to visit the down and outs and the dispossessed of London. But why? Does he have an ulterior motive in doing so? Read A Festive Juxtaposition and find out for yourself.

Just finished β€œThe Swords” and β€œThe Hospice” by Robert Aickman. I came to him late, but the refusal to make sense, horror filtered through British banality and polite speech, is deeply unsettling. Pinter at his best comes to mind (β€œThe Dumb Waiter”, β€œThe Birthday Party”).

The Evenings is an interesting and most unusual novel. First published in Dutch in 1947, Reve’s book was given a deserved new lease of life by the excellent #PushkinPress with a new 2016.
It details the absurdities and quotidian boredom of a very modest household through young Fritz’s warped humour.

For the next 30 hours, you can be the proud owner of one of the titles in the link above for a very doable 1.99 USD. Could be worth it. You don't know.
