The President of the USA is now openly threatening Iran with being the target of one of the greatest crimes in world history. Trump is saying he will destroy the basis of life for more than 90 million people.
He should be removed from office for this.

Oliver Metcalfe, head of wind research at BloombergNEF. “Challenged by razor-thin margins at home, Chinese suppliers are leveraging lower-cost production and fast delivery to enter new markets and undercut established rivals across Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.”

Outside mainland China, new additions also rose, increasing 17% year-on-year to 43GW. For the first time since wind power emerged as a major global force, India edged out the US and Germany to claim the title of biggest wind market outside mainland China. India’s climb is bolstered by complex auctions, which typically require developers to integrate multiple renewable technologies or oversize projects beyond their contracted capacity, particularly in wind.

“India fully deserves its place as the second-largest wind market in the world.” said Siddharth Shetty, BNEF’s lead wind analyst for India. “The sector is reaping the rewards of complex auctions, pioneered by India’s clean power auctioning agencies in 2018. And this momentum is not fading. We expect wind build to continue at similar levels through the end of this decade.”

China and India making the smart choice while Europe bafflingly decides this is the perfect time to tighten the cuffs that are chaining us to ultra-expensive gas

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, March 9, 2026 Ukrainian forces are successfully counterattacking in the Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipole directions and also in western Zaporizhia Oblast.

5/ The cascading effects that the Ukrainian counterattacks in the Oleksandrivka, Hulyaipole, and Zaporizhia directions have generated in other sectors of the front show how constrained the Russian force structure in Ukraine really is. isw.pub/UkrWar030926

In the chaos in Iran, you might have missed the news that Russia's operational momentum has slowed, even reversed, on the frontlines in Ukraine.

Exclusive: U.S. dismissed Ukraine deal for anti-Iran drone tech last year Snubbing Ukraine's offer ranks as one of the U.S.'s biggest tactical miscalculations before the war, officials say.

EXCLUSIVE: 7 months ago, Ukraine tried to sell the U.S. their battle-proven technology for downing Iranian-made drones.

The Trump administration dismissed the Ukrainians, only to reverse course last week after more-than-expected Iranian drone strikes.

Bit of a call out to fellow historians!

Anyone with suitable interest/expertise available on Monday and up for recording a podcast with me on "Rat Lines" - the post-war efforts to help Nazi's escape to South America and elsewhere?

Unfortunately my planned guest had to drop out #skystorians

David MacKay FRS: : Contents

None of this is new. “Heat pumps are superior in efficiency to condensing boilers, even if the heat pumps are powered by electricity from a power station burning natural gas.” Not me saying that but the late Prof Sir David MacKay in 2008 in his landmark book. www.withouthotair.com

This is a terrible and very uninformed take of Tim who should know better.

- heat pumps save around 80% gas today compared to gas boilers

- using renewable electricity is one of the most effective ways to reduce gas consumption

- the marginal emissions argument is deeply flawed (more in comments)

Electrification 💚 energy efficiency

Energy efficiency must be a guiding principle of electrification – they go hand-in-hand.

It already saved €120 billion in the EU in 2023 – and there's a lot of potential for more energy savings 👇

Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.

This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.

44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.

Invasive alien species are a top driver of global nature loss. Yet whenever it's an animal, a segment of people fanatically resists their control.

They believe it's okay to sacrifice whole native ecosystems, with 1,000s of interconnected species, rather than tackle the problem.

They're very wrong.

One of the reasons I still have physical magazine and newspaper subscriptions, I hope the family will pick them up occasionally and maybe learn something. This is probably a hope in vain, but still..

My 14-year-old grandson has a subscription to the 'New Scientist' magazine, which he reads avidly every month.
He also, typically, has a least two books on the go at any one time, one novel, one non-fiction. Both aimed at adults.

It’s past time for Trump and Hegseth to come clean on this. They already know the truth. What they are doing now is simply refusing to accept responsibility.

Found the same in our attic after my wife died and I was clearing the place ready to sell the farm. They're not worth much unless boxed or rare, so I skipped the lot. Not worth the trouble of selling on Ebay unless you like that sort of thing :-)

I remember the 1973-74 peak well. The Govt re-issued wartime petrol coupons to ration fuel for vehicle owners—though in the end they were never used. Still had mine until not that long ago.

While I slept I put 149 miles of range in my EV between midnight and 5.19am last night, at a cost of £4.40.
Compare that to queuing to put petrol in your ICE car and paying £7+ a gallon.

Misinformation about EVs is affecting non-EV drivers' perceptions of them.

When faced with 10 false statements about EVs commonly seen in the UK media (eg they're more likely to catch fire):

51% scored 2/10

84% 5 or less

Just 5% got 8 or more correct
