I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.

Software has always been odd in an economic sense. There is a logistical weight to packaging and shipping physical discs, but downloadable software has at most the barrier of an internet connection. Arguably the server uptime is a cost, but otherwise these products just don't exist physically.

One of the more prominent examples of this in passenger airlines- It costs about the same in fuel to fly an empty plane as one with the seats full, so any flight that isn't at capacity is technically a loss. So, you mark down the cost for flights in less busy seasons.

Price adjustments aren't new, and aren't hard to understand. You manipulate the price like a mechanical lever. This is tied to your logistics, you want to be able to sell stuff at roughly the same rate you get it stocked.

What confuses me about this is that 'dynamic pricing' doesn't make a lot of sense for a digital product? The only real use case is for regional adjustments for places where $60-70 USD is unreasonable in local currency.
