The Productivity Commission is floating AI copyright exemptions β with worrying implications for Australian authors and publishers
Hi Patrick, Iβm afraid itβs from release. But we try to offer this program every year. 2026β¦?
The Copyright Agency-UTS New Writerβs Fellowship 2025 is whatβs up, thank you Bluesky! Based in the Creative Writing department at UTS in Sydney, it supports a writer working on a second or third book. Details below. www.uts.edu.au/about/facult...
Thank you, Charlotte. She spoke highly of your work, including in that fabulous Kenyon Review interview - but I didnβt know this mentoring history. Our own books were so entwined. What connections Varuna has also made. β€οΈ
Vale brilliant Australian writer and dear friend Brenda Walker. theconversation.com/remembering-...
Thank Ryan, Iβm far down the Japanese lit rabbit hole. Not a Murakami fan but find Mishima intriguing. Like Ogawa. Love Tanizaki and Kawabata.
"Bumblebee population increases 116 times over in 'remarkable' Scotland rewilding project."
Read that again: **116** times.
Why are we STILL having to argue the case for rewilding??

Ah, fabulous. Thanks!!
Yes, I do know Kerrβs work and agree. Heβs interesting on the repression of a thread of robust vulgarity in Japanβs history (though Iβm a Tanizaki fan and that vulgarity is a reason I love his work). And heβs good on buildings.
Oooh⦠interested!
βUntil the Job-ready Graduates Package has been abolished and a better model for student fees has replaced it as envisioned by the Accord process, the HECS-HELP system will remain manifestly unfair, and graduates in history will continue to draw the short straw.β theaha.org.au/aha-statemen...
Fantastic thread, Naomi and super clear. Thank you!
Also seeking any other creative writing academics, especially in Australia!
Some great starter packs here. Iβm now looking for lovers of Japanese literature and culture, Australian historians, environmental historians, and any interesting resources on literature from South America or Asia. Any tips or leads appreciated!
David Dyerβs Kingdom of Dust - an alternative history of the Apollo 11 landing with bonus Norman Maileresque journalist character, alongside Buzz and Joan Aldrin - is the most enjoyable Australian book Iβve read this year (just out).
Haha, yes! I found James Bradleyβs order slip in one of mine the other day. A lot of writers and readers in the neighbourhood.
I made a thing!
I was playing around with the AT protocol and as a little experiment I made a website that visualises activity around Bluesky: nightsky.hctr.dev
It listens to all new posts and shows them as little stars across a night sky π
Every star is someone, somewhere, posting something
Thanks! β€οΈ
This is actually full of good reporting on casualization of UKHE at even the most prestigious institutions. And the fact that the Observer pressed Christ Church directly on ad wording, and then reported on the college's sidestepping is nothing short of astonishing.
Iβd love to be included, please!
Let me check. It may be recorded and podcast.
The UTS Writersβ Anthology, a national lit journal out of Writing, is now 43 and has launched many careers. Come and hear this yearβs editors talk about the joys and challenges of editorship at the University of Technology Sydneyβs FASStival on 11 December. events.humanitix.com/2024-uts-wri...
Another excellent event out of UTS Writing at the UTS FASStival on December 11, University of Technology Sydney. Our UTS Copyright Agency Writer in Residence Vivian Pham will talk about writing her second novel. Why write dystopian fiction in a troubled world? events.humanitix.com/uts-copyrigh...
Friends, this is a nice way to begin on this platform. (Is the Bluesky equivalent of a tweet a flutter??) Join me and UTS alumnus David Dyer for this FASStival session in which we talk about his wonderful new novel, outer space and the writing life. events.humanitix.com/in-orbit-thi...
Joining the migration (I think).
