Happily my muscle aches werenβt DOMS from my struggle of a long run on Sunday night! Sadly my muscle aches and pains were the flu coming on. Feeling very sorry for myself. But spent the day emerging from fever and plotting out a new training plan. 9 weeks to go! #running ππ»ββοΈ

If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kΔkΔpΕ chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!

I didnβt want an engagement ring so B surprised me with a fancy sports watch. Canβt believe I resisted it for so long!! I can set up little interval run programs. And push the little pause button when I stop at a light - like a real runner. π #running

The second #kakapo chick of the #kakapo2026 breeding season hatched this morning: Hine Taumai-A1-2026 on Ako's nest on Te KΔkahu. We transferred the egg from Anchor two nights ago. This is Ako's first-ever chick, which is just a few hours old in this video. #conservation #birds #parrots

She also used to go on drives with us in her yellow fiat so she could plot the distance of her long runs on the odometer. It was the 80βs - no smart watches. She was training for Comrades. I didnβt know what that was. Now I am in awe. #running
When I shop for running shoes I always think of my mum pushing her thumb on the top of the shoe when I was a kid - checking if there was a full thumbnail of space. Was that everyone? Or just mums who ran?

A man at my gym sauna did a full on workout - including bicycle kicks and floor stretches. Inside the sauna. While I was also in the sauna. Not doing any of those things.

This month in 2016 I ran my first ever 10km. It took me 1:06:42. My best effort! This week I did an easy 10km training run at conversational pace and it took a minute longer. And that time included stopping at every traffic light. In life and #running progress is easily missed.

Wait are there any billionaires on BlueSky yet? If they have fantasies about changing the world then funding a basic fence upgrade that might save an ecosystem from collapse would be so super cool. And way cheaper than buying and destroying say⦠democratic institutions.
We can spend $6M (NZD) over 10 years on a pretty good fence, or $42M for a Zealandia-level pest control fence that will transform this ecosystem. So we just need a billionaire to find $36M under the couch cushion please.
