It's complicated. I think students should be given a choice to read it or not. As a student, I wish I'd been given the option. I felt things too deeply, and it seemed like our required reading was always deeply depressing. I wouldn't have wanted it to be banned for everyone, though.

Also, it's noteworthy how your language shifts immediately when you want to imply someone is harmless, you call them a "kid," but another child the same age that you want to portray as villainous, you switch to "person" to make them sound older and more culpable.
I don't know if this is encouraging or not, but I went through a similar period of introspection and self-work right before meeting the person I'm married to now. I don't think our relationship would be as strong or would have lasted if I hadn't done that.

Absolutely. I love the wild grapes. The fruit isn't big enough for us, but it attracts a ton of birds, and they grew over my goose pen so beautifully.
My husband, not realizing the seeds wouldn't produce the same fruit, decided to plant grapes by wandering around the yard while eating seeded grapes and spitting the seeds wherever he happened to be standing at the time.

It took me about an hour and a half to paint and I used Crayola watercolors.
