Great sighting Dave, very interesting data.
A male reed bunting arrived in garden today, 6th Mar. In 2024 it arrived on 8th and last year 6th!!!. Surely the same local bird. Usually hangs around 6/7 weeks. Amazing! @lincswildlife.bsky.social @lincsbirding.bsky.social #lincsbirding
Lapland Bunting still present and a Firecrest near Crook Bank carpark. #lincsbirding
There are TWO Lapland Buntings at Saltfleetby-Theedlethorpe Dunes! #lincsbirding
Finally! A Lapland Bunting, and a Lincs one. I missed 2 in Norfolk last year and this was my 4th attempt at this particular bird. Seemed to show well when everyone else left, it was just me & the bird. Bunting #8. #155 of year. #lincsbirding #ukbirding #birds #birdsseenin2026 #laplandbunting
@lincsbirding.bsky.social Five of the seven Common Crossbill from Tunman Woods. Possibly two female in the photo but taken from about 300 yards away. An excellent spot by Andy Simms as he spotted them in flight
Incredible picture, the best weβve seen, of the Lapland Bunting today on the east coast. Bravo Mark.
Yes, one was seen at Branston Island today Andy.

Fantast Daniel, great find. ππ¦
Wow, what a stunner!
Farewell and safe travels. A pleasure to have hosted you. #snowgoose
Lincs birds today.. Drake Smew also still present at Jobβs Lane landfill site (donβt obstruct entrance or walk down path beyond left footpath, workers on site). #lincsbirding
Great to see Spoonbills are appearing Nick.
The Great Grey Shrike seems very settledβ¦ today is itβs 46th day! Drake Smew still in situ also. #lincsbirding
2 Tundra Beans at S-T NNR, also 19 Snow Bunting and still 2 Shore Lark. 3 Tundras also in field on right, approaching Frampton Marsh RSPB reserve. #lincsbirding
Lincs birds today. The returning male Smew appeared at itβs usual location yesterday - 1 day out compared to 2025! Spoonbills & Spotted Redshanks making appearances too. Is it spring yet? #lincsbirding
Possible beginnings of courtship?

Finally, a decent weekend of weather for a dabble at birding. A visit to #Lincolnshire @lincsbirding.bsky.social for Great Grey Shrike (that didnβt want to perform like it has been doing). Then to the coast ποΈ for Shore Lark & Snow Bunting @rspb.bsky.social #birds πͺΆ @britishnatureguide.bsky.social
WeBS counts today: 2500 Oystercatcher, 15000 Knot, 800 Bar-tailed Godwit, 7000(!) Grey Plover, 420 Sanderling and 3400 Dunlin (21/2/26) @lincsbirding.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social
L to R: Barnacle with some Cackling genes (note the white collar and mahogany tinged breast), Atlantic Canada, hybrid Barnacle x Cackling Geese
Hybrid Barnacle x Cackling Geese
Atlantic Canadas, hybrid Barnacle x Cackling Geese, Moorhen
Canada, Barnacle and Cackling Goose genes in various bodies
I've had misgivings for a while, but @mattdenial.bsky.social's videos prove that the Branston brantas are a real pickle. Six show mixed features (white foreheads and/or dark breasts) and even the "Barnacle" shows a white collar and mahogany-tinged breast. All F1 & F2 hybrids to my eye #lincsbirding
Tonnes of birds still around Branston Island generally. On top of the Geese, 3 Glossy Ibis are hanging around, as well as:
4000+ Lapwing
1000+ Golden Plover
500 Wigeon
600 Teal
60 Pintail
6+ Great Egret
2 Ruff
12 Dunlin
