This woman, US citizen living in Skokie, was detained at Ohare yesterday, taken to Broadview, then transferred to a detention facility in Wisconsin, now released. We know all this not because of DHS, who repeatedly denied that they even had her, but because her phone was pinging in those locations.

I know there have been recent editions with new translations recently- I believe it’s a set of Soviet sci-fi explicitly…worth checking out! Not to say older translations are bad, my version is a straight 80s translation-some contrivances happen, but not enough to be confusing or irritating.
4 frame comic. the first frame shows Fredrick Brennan, the second shows the 8chan logo, the third shows the 8chan homepage, the fourth shows birds flying out of a tree near a house on a pink sky. the text reads, across the four frames : I was saddened to learn about the recent passing at 31 of fredrick brennan. he was born with brittle bone syndrom, an inherited genetic disease, and early in his life, deve- lopped the belief that people like him should be forcibly sterilized. at 12, he joined 4chan, which further radicalized him into incel culture and white supremacy. when 4chan banned discussions about gamergate, he decided to create the unmoderated 8chan. but after a few years, he realized how his creation brought out the worst in people. he gave the web- site to his associate, and went on to spend the rest of his life back- tracking on the politics of his youth, trying to get the website shut down and making amends. I wouldn't say that we were friends, but we did talk several times. he first reached out to me in 2018 to offer a formal apology for the harassment and doxxing I suffered from 8chan. after that, he kept monitoring the forums, and would let me know whenever people were planning to cause trouble at my public talks and things like that. when I think about brennan's complicated story and legacy, I'm reminded how people can change. his change of heart inspired me to keep creating through hardships. I hope you rest in peace, fredrick. apologies accepted.

No fr, people were fucking feral about that movie when it came out. Almost as frustrating as Idiocracy—but some of those jokes actually work even if you don’t like the movie.

As a depressed sad sack-I understand you want to portray a sense of self defeatism in tone—but like, I need characters to still do things and take actions.
The play is just as monotonous, bland and frustrating as-do not recommend.
It’s based on a play from a self hating gay man—it reeks of this weird self depreciation obsession while wanting to forcefully project that on the audience.
Genuinely cannot stand the band Interpol. Every song sounds exactly the same and doing a bad Ben Stein impression isn’t “singing”

You’re right, cause as I was watching Dune 2 in the theater people audibly gasped at Paul choosing Irulan after telling Chani he loves her— completely framed as a betrayal, when in the book it’s actively a political strategy to maintain power. So it’s like-not even trying to interpret the text?
