This was fun. Thanks @biketalk.bsky.social for having me on your show to talk about San Francisco's Slow Streets program.

Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words!
Oh no! None were planted on my bday either and I made this thing.
Good news is you can join a community tree planting this summer and help pay it forward. 🙂

If you're enjoying this project PLEASE consider making a donation to support our work.
My server costs are very real and we were not paid to create this.
Thanks for your support! 🙏

My birthday tree project made the news! 🥳
Thanks @sfgate.com for helping me get this project out there & for sharing the inspiration behind it.
We just hit 14,000 searches in less than 3 days 🙀
I'm so happy to see so many people enjoying it. 🥰

Find your birthday tree🌳🎁! Enter your birthday to discover San Francisco street trees that were planted (many by Friends of the Urban Forest) on the day you were born. Thanks for creating this @braitsch.bsky.social!
Did you know approximately half of San Francisco's street trees were planted by @sftrees.bsky.social?
You can request a tree for the front of your home or business and Friends of the Urban Forest will help you plant it for FREE! 🙀

Happy Earth Day! I recently learned that San Francisco has approximately 125,000 street trees, so I made a fun project where you can enter your birthday to discover street trees that were planted on the day you were born! 🎄🌴🌳🥳

What a lovely day to premiere the culmination of over 5 years of tireless work by our extraordinary community @oceanbeachpark.org
I'm so thankful for what each and every one of you have done to bring us to this historic day.
My latest newsletter digs deeper into the San Francisco Fire Department's emergency response times to Slow Streets to understand why it took them 31 minutes to travel five blocks.

Hi @transformca.bsky.social 👋 This is my project. I'd appreciate it if you tagged me in your post about it and followed back.
If you want to bring your 4 wheeled air conditioned living room into our city's flagship park you absolutely should have to goddamn pay to do so.

Thank you. I put a ton of time and energy into them and I hope it shows!
Despite the program's success there are still angry people who selfishly demand to be able to drive everywhere w/ impunity.
If you’re fighting for safer streets and need help pushing back on vibes and false narratives perpetuated by the status quo reach out and let’s talk!

SF's Slow Streets have been wildly successful at building community while reducing noise, improving quality of life & public safety.
The program's success is due to the 100s of stewards across the city who maintain them & organize events.
My favorite is Page Slow Street 😍 www.pageslowstreet.org
Our latest analysis breaks down crashes, injuries & emergency response times on all 18 Slow Streets, shows before vs after & lets you filter all of the data on a map.
This project also updates daily w/ the latest data available so bookmark it for easy reference! transpomaps.org/projects/san...
🚨 New Data Analysis: San Francisco's Slow Streets have reduced vehicle crashes by 61% over the past 2 years compared to a 5% increase citywide AND they've had a trivial impact on emergency response times, despite the fire department vehemently opposing them.
www.kqed.org/news/1202844...
Unfortunately, this is not true & only looks at 18 days of data. In the 45 days prior to 1/5/24 there were 471 crashes in the CRZ that injured 211 people.
In the 45 days since 1/5/24 there have been 441 crashes that injured 186 ppl, which is a ~12% drop in injuries.

Anyone else struggling to focus & stay motivated with this weather and endless barrage of bad news?
I have several projects that are like 80-90% completed and can't seem to get them done.
How are y'all battling fatigue, despair and the feeling that nothing you're working on even matters anymore?
After 4 years & connecting 320 people in need with free bikes, Bike Match Network is shutting down.
Plus a deep dive into why Telraam's traffic monitoring sensors haven't been effective at calming our streets in the Bay Area.
New substack just dropped 🔥

I don't post much on socials as I'm usually heads down cranking out projects & trying fundraise to support our small team.
We have a newsletter which is an easy way to follow our work and we're always looking for collaborators to join our team ✨

Hi bluesky. I haven't been on here in awhile, nice meet you new followers. I produce maps & data analyses that help people fight for safer, healthier & more equitable cities.
I'd love to see what you're working on.
Here's our latest project we just launched today sf.streetsblog.org/2024/12/02/n...
Our analysis looked at city data & eight case studies where waterfront roadways & industrial areas were converted into public parks.
In every case, these conversions generated an economic windfall for local businesses.
Parks are good for business! Vote #yesonk!

New data analysis & op-ed:
Turning the Great Highway into a park will bring millions to local businesses AND will likely reduce vehicle crashes and emergency response times throughout the Sunset District.
Support our local businesses by voting #yesonk!

I made a live crash tracker to support congestion pricing in NYC! Will any of my 19 followers see it here? Who knows!
