A Common Toad sits motionless in the grass, staring dead ahead with a grumpy, resigned expression. Its squat, unimpressed face perfectly captures the Monday mood...tired, unbothered, and just surviving.
The official face of Monday.

A wildcat with bright reflective eyes holds a stick in its mouth, captured at night in a grassy outdoor area. The scene suggests stealth and wildness. Overlay reads "when you were released as a wildcat but identify as a dog"

To date, this partnership project, led by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), has released 46 wildcats into the Cairngorms National Park, and at least nine of those females have given birth to kittens in the wild.

Movement everywhere as the wind shook the trees, autumnal colours glistening in the wet.

A vibrant Kingfisher in flight, captured in a streamlined position as it darts through the air. The bird's striking electric blue back and wings contrast with its bright orange underbelly. Its long, pointed beak is sharp and focused, as if it's hunting for prey. The background is a soft blur of green and brown hues, highlighting the kingfisherβs swift movement against the natural environment.

It's @walkhighlands.co.uk time! And in my latest column I'm taking a closer look at the weirdness that is Fata Morgana. I've only seen this bizarre mirage a couple of times, and this particular sighting was on 27th December on Carn na Drochaide. My brain hurts after writing it though! π
A small group of snowdrops
Snowdrops are not indigenous to Britain, & likely introduced around the 1500s, but now fully naturalised
They likely began their life here in monastery herb gardens, perhaps used medicinally
They have long been linked to celebrating light's victory over darkness
