The Māori Seats in parliament are for Māori people. They are a Tiriti-based right not a race-based right.

This is why at Rātana Pā we launched a member's bill to entrench Māori seats - the bare minimum for protect dedicated Māori voice in our parliament.

Green MP pushes to give whales legal rights under NZ law amid declining numbers Recognising whales as legal persons could force major changes to how oceans are managed, as a new bill links conservation, climate change, and Pacific values.

Tere tohorā, tere tangata.
Where whales journey, people follow.

Climate change is not going anywhere and New Zealanders deserve a government that puts climate action, adaptation & strong emergency responses first.

The Government is choosing to increase climate changing emissions and failing to support communities hit first and worst by severe weather. Climate change is increasing the cost of living and wreaking havoc on the livelihoods of our regional communities.

The flooding in Te Tai Tokerau is a climate change charged weather event. The Government will try to tell you that floods like these shouldn't be politicised. But the thing is, this is political.

Today, we renew our commitment to all those survivors, whānau, hapū, iwi, communities and support networks who advocated and told their stories throughout the Inquiry. We will continue to stand with them and support their urgent call for action.

Survivors of abuse suffered at the hands of the state and churches deserve more than an apology; they deserve action.

This Govt has a responsibility to ensure that no one ever again suffers the horrific abuses these survivors have. The Govt’s policies are going in a different direction.

11.11.2025 20:51 👍 3 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0

Survivors have repeatedly called for the Government to implement all 138 recommendations which resulted from the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care, honour the principles of Te Tiriti, & critically, stop the boot camp programmes that continue the cycle of harm to rangatahi in care today.

11.11.2025 20:51 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0

One year on, we must question the value of an apology made by a Government that refuses to listen and respond to the voices of survivors.

Every child, young person or adult placed in state or faith-based care should be protected from harm and given everything they need to thrive.

We are deeply concerned about major cuts to funding for Māori news and current affairs programmes Te Karere and The Hui, by Te Māngai Pāhō.

This is terrible for Māori media, and sadly consistent with this Government’s continual undermining of Māori culture.

Tomorrow, October 23rd, over 100,000 unionised workers will organise together with a clear message to the Coalition Govt:

Your anti-union propaganda isn't working.

Kiwis want healthy, well-paid healthcare workers, teachers, and public sector workers.

And austerity will NEVER deliver that.

37% of Upper Hutt City has voted, and only 31% of Hutt City. Both figures are down up to 10% from the 2022 elections.

Text reads:
Drug Overdose (Assistance Protection) Legislation Bill
Member’s Bill
Explanatory note
General policy statement

This Bill aims to ensure that those who call for life-saving help when they are with someone who is experiencing a drug overdose or adverse drug reaction, are protected from being charged for low-level drug offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975.

While those who seek help are not routinely criminally charged, there is a fear of criminal prosecution. This clarification can help avoid overdose deaths by making it clear that those who call for life-saving services will be protected.

Green Party MP Benjamir Dovle resigns from Parliament
"Over the past months, I have been on a journey of healing. During this time, I have come to the realisation that I cannot complete this journey while in Parliament.
"After having baseless and violent accusations thrown at me, and an onslaught of hate, vitriol and threats of real-world violence directed at me and my whanau, I have decided to move on from Parliament.
"Whanau is the most precious thing in the world.
From the start, I have always said my child is my priority.
My tamaiti asked me to leave Parliament, and I am leaving for them and for my own wellbeing.
"I leave Parliament with pride, and that is something nobody can take away from me. It was a pleasure and a privilege to represent and work for the communities that carried me here. I am so grateful for their trust and guidance.
"I am leaving Parliament, I am not disappearing. I will continue to fight for people and planet, just not from inside this House.
"Our politics, our democracy and our Parliament should be a place for everyone. My time here has shown that we clearly still have work to do. I hope this experience is something that we can all learn and grow from," says Benjamin Doyle.

Authorised by Benjamin Doyle, Green MP. Parliament Buildings, Wellington.
