This is not mine, but it is hilarious and kind of alarming at the same time

We are delighted to see our work published in @jci-insight.bsky.social! Reducing salt intake is advised in decompensated #cirrhosis, but not so much in compensated patients. We show that moderating salt intake may also help avoid inflammatory complications in these patients. Thx to my team @umh.es

A finding worth its salt!

That’s an 8% success rate. Way too low, in my opinion. Many excellent proposals from excellent candidates will not be funded.

Big speeches always talk about motivation but, in my opinion, resilience and commitment are perhaps the most important for a research career.

Last week I participated in the evaluation panel of an early postdoc fellowship in Spain. If you are thinking of applying to something like that, my advice:
- Quality over quantity in your publications
- Mobility is key. Even a few months of international research experience helps!

I worked as a postdoc and project scientist at UCSD for ~8 years total. When I was ready to apply for faculty positions I had to go back to Europe for family reasons and become PI there instead. I loved San Diego and for years I felt like it was a step back in my career. Now, it feels the opposite

I am writing a grant proposal that is due in 5 days. Suddenly, the idea doesn’t sound attractive anymore and I have the urge to change it completely: hypothesis, aims, methodology… pretty much everything.
My gut and my brain are fighting. Not the first time, but this time they’re getting serious
