Maybe because the station boxes are often in the middle of the street? Though that would be a weird thing to clarify here

What in the world? And where is this?
Map of Inglewood Transit Connector BRT lines
Yes! I still think itβs very silly to serve two stations that have very few fare gates and were not designed for big events, but I suppose itβs nice theyβll have some dedicated infrastructure. Unfortunately most of the money on the project is getting spent on parking garages
the APM probably not opening in time is a bummer but the bus shuttles they will run from the LAX/Metro station make a lot more sense than the Inglewood transit connector BRT that will open in a few years. Having buses start at LAX allows a connection with both the C/K lines and has way more capacity
Itβs fascinating how LA Metro, Muni, and MTS chose to do BRT with regular right-door buses but ACT and Omnitrans use doors on both sides. There would be tradeoffs with a βone size fits allβ approach for BRT stations in CA but it would certainly help with bus procurement
Which bill is this?
Fun fact: El Segundo bans residential uses anywhere near their light rail stations because itβs zoned industrial. Glad we have SB 79 now!
Will be funny when after a few years in court, they get the builders remedy and canβt update their housing element to stop it.
Is SB 423 still alive as a 2-year bill? Seems like this one should be a priority before CAA starts funding a lot of ads for the HJTA measure
I think there was a change order to make TBM placement easier in the west end in the future should they ever want to extend
I remember something about an aerial gondola from the Metro department of extraordinary innovation a few years ago.
Going to be huge when the subway goes there and more people can avoid that godforsaken parking garage
Itβs owned by a couple who splits their time between Santa Monica and Cuba. Theres an article on them but Iβm not going to post it because itβs on Breitbart
Also in typical LA county fashion, they had an under-advertised Pasadena Transit shuttle that ran from Metro rail for one summer using grant money and it got no ridership so they cancelled it
LADOT commuter express bus map showing service on the 405
There are a few! And if they added all-day/every day service and rerouted things a bit to better connect with Metro Rail and BRT, they would be much more useful. Full map here: ladot.lacity.gov/sites/defaul...
True, but expresslanes raise money and speed up express buses (provided they donβt need to enter and exit the freeway more than once or twice)
They are bonding against 105 expresslanes revenue to build it, but if they do an HOV - expresslane conversion for sepulveda pass it should be cheaper
I wonder if they can bond against the expresslane revenue since those are supposed to open in a few years. Although Metro has a much lower toll cap than OCTA or RCTC so that really holds back the revenue stream
I agree. Unlike the 10 there arenβt a lot of side streets people would use to skip the toll. Metroβs congestion pricing studies show this. It might not be enough to move the needle politically, but rearranging LADOT buses could provide a compelling transit alternative to during subway construction
The vote didnβt pass for June ballot measure. It was sent back to committee (probably will be debated and amended) for a possible November ballot measure.
Is Santa Monica planning something similar for Measure GS? Iβm less familiar with the mechanics of that one but hoping it can be amended in a similar way.
Lawndale is just under the 35k population requirement for the small cities exemption so itβs only a 0.25 mile radius. But Torrance and Redondo Beach will get the full 0.5 miles.
I could live with the G line being a separate line if they build an elevated metro along the busway and extend to Pasadena. B line can stay a subway and go to the Burbank HSR hub.
According to numble Metro was trying to make the valley light rail and Sepulveda line one thing but they didn't get any private partner development proposals they deemed good enough.

My cope is that K line south will unleash a wave of elevated rail along arterials in Los Angeles. Also hope the new Caltrans standards for allowing elevated rail along freeways is real. But still this is happening for the dumbest reasons possible.
At least Cerritos changed their mind, but even if Lawndale changes their minds, there is no Metro money to pay for it. Probably will happen to Cerritos too. And then 20 years down the line they will pay a full billion dollars for an infill station.
*LA METRO* opposes SB 79 - the law that makes it possible for more people to use the transit Metro builds! They worry cities that don't like SB 79 will slow down their projects. Metro wants to exempt LA County from the law, or maybe even all of California except the Bay Area. Just totally unhinged.
Horrendous parking door placement, otherwise very good. I could see San Diego getting something this nice someday
wonder if they will also do 1500 VDC third rail for wider spacing between substations
