How far theyβve come? The whole state is quickly marching backwards.
I came here for this. THIS is the correct meme.
I work 300-500 miles every day on 2m and 70cm FT8 when there is no βopeningβ. I work some of the same stations every day. Observing the daily changes in propagation and what happens to your signal, multipath distortion, etc. will never not be interesting to me.
I see what you did there. π
Feeling cute. Might delete later.
N1MM is probably one of the best choices for contesting. For casual logging I used Ham Radio Deluxe which forwards QSO reports to QRZ instantly.
Also, some better logging software.
Suggest that something other than a hand mic be your next shack upgrade if you intend on participating more in future contests.
Powerpoles are great! They are genderless. Everything plugs into everything. They are easy to put together without any need for heat shrink like you should have on an XT60 or XT99 at the end of a cable. I solder all my PowerPoles. I prefer this over crimping. No need to buy a special tool.
-12 C here today and I turned both my HF and VHF/UFH beams (2 separate towers) this morning. Both towers have Yaesu G-800 rotators.
Min temp? I donβt know. Iβm more concerned about ice buildup.
Happy World Radio Day to those who celebrate!
Good luck. Technician and General tests were pretty easy. The Extra test is a different story.
Iβve been there. The struggle is real. I use one of these to share one amplifier between two radios each connected to its own antenna, or with both SCUβs in my Flex 6600. 4o3a.com/1-amp-2-radi...
I see 2m and 70cm SSB as a lot of fun. I have 300+ mile QSOs everyday. Iβm using a Flex 6600 and Q5 Signal transverters.
I have an FT-847. I bought it brand new in the late 90βs. Itβs a great VHF/UHF rig and ok on HF. Happy to answer any questions you might have about it.
We have a group that does the same thing here locally as well. Depending on whoβs on the air we sometimes switch over to 2m SSB, and more rarely 432 SSB. Itβs great fun!
You canβt run a business on ham radio. Any form of payment would be illegal.
The FT-8100βs and FT-8000 are great radios to operate, but unfortunately there were LOTS of manufacturing defects with the vias on the boards. I still have an operating FT-8000 that has been repaired many times and cobbled together from donor radio parts. Good luck!
You have 146.52 FM labeled β2mSSBβ?
Doesnβt announce their callsign? We donβt need or want any of that type of behavior on the bands. We are also pretty good at chasing down rouge signals.
Amateur Radio is not anonymous communications.

You are not legally allowed to hide or encrypt the meaning/contents of messages on amateur radio. Well, encryption is allowed, but the keys to decrypt must be publicly available. Odds are that someone will hear your TX on the HF bands and with SDR receivers itβs very easy to record it all.
Fortunately I live out in the country so itβs relatively quiet here. I mostly only have my own noise generated in my own house to worry about. When I first put up an HF antenna it was right near the house and lots of noise. I moved it 150β from the house with buried coax and itβs much better now.
There is a relaxed activity group that meets on 18.157.5 every day around 1:00 or 1:30pm EST. When they are done there they move to 15m, then 12m, and finally 10m. More info at hfqso.com
Yes, 17m is usually a more relaxed band.
Congratulations!
For people who really love the magic of radio, amateur radio is a life long pursuit. Building and improving your station, and exploring new modes over time, is lots of fun,
