Also, reframe "leading with conclusions" to "bottom line up front" or BLUF. With BLUF they know what you proposal is about first, then dive into the evidence and feasibility.
Nice! I have a signed copy of the 2nd edition from grad school.

I really enjoyed your talk and learned a ton! Thank you. π
Woodson wrote in 1927. βWe should emphasize not Negro History, but the Negro in history. What we need is not a history of selected races or nations, but the history of the world void of national bias, race, hatred and religious prejudice.β

Oh no! π‘ [A friend once found their stolen bike for sale on craigslist and bought it back for $50.]
Grants office just offered a narrow interpretation that only the 10 listed pubs can be called out in the supplement.
Ha, ha, ha.
One thing I do not like is the embedded idea that contributions to science are captured in 5-10 publications. Some contributions build over years and multiple papersβ¦sometimes more than 5.
Yup. Leaves me inclined toward declining the subsequent request to review.
Thank for highlighting our work!
cognitive reframing ahead of quals:
β I will be stuck in a room with a firing squad of friends and allies whose eyes will go red like robots in the movies for 2 hours to grill me
β
THEY will be stuck in there with ME while I talk a 2 hour blue streak about my very favorite stuff in the world π
Thank you! Rogerβs legacy is full of color and playfulness. He is missed.

There is always the Clandinin rule: Estimate the time, double the number, and increase the unit by one notch. 1 day = 2 weeks. Does that help?
Congrats to Guosong Hong, a/prof @stanfordbrain.bsky.social, on receiving the inaugural #BiophotonicsDiscovery Impact of the Year Award!
Hong is honored for achieving optical transparency in live animals via absorbing dyes, a transformative advance in #biophotonics. π‘

A collaborator of my PhD advisor asked me why he insisted on training women, since they would all leave to have children. I did not have kids at that time, but told him I hope he was better at knowing his audience when giving seminars and walked away.
At an evening event/dinner-talk with students, the other faculty presenter said βI know you have small kids, would you like to speak first so you can get home to them.β Students were shocked by this line which simultaneously undermined me as a scientist & mother.
We made nanobodies that make your heartπ« stop πbeating. Keep reading to learn how this taught us about how large membrane proteins like ion channels are folded and assembled in human cells. Beyond excited to share my lab's first preprint: Please π bit.ly/49A0PtD

Yup! The seam is on the other side. So cool π
Thatβs fabulous! I would love to walk by that every day.
How many protofilaments? Thereβs no seam visible, so not a 13pf microtubule. Right?
I'm honored to have received the 2025 HUPO Distinguished Service Award (hupo.org/HUPO-Awards-...) with @mlaval6.bsky.social for building a dynamic early career researcher (ECR) community within @hupo-org.bsky.social. Empowering and amplifying ECRs has been deeply meaningful to meβthank you, HUPO.
