The reality is more nuanced.
Netflix wins the bid? Netflix wins. Netflix loses the bid? Netflix wins. If Netflix had had their merger overturned years later? Netflix would still win (using some sort of three-dimensional chess of harming Warner Bros. for a few years). If Netflix had never bid at all? They’d still have won.
I hate the “Heads, Netflix wins; Tails, Hollywood loses” style punditry analysis. That analysis, though, seemed to dominate after Netflix backed out of their bid to buy Paramount.

I will say: not putting these scripts out publicly does feel like gatekeeping. Unlike the past, the outside don’t have access to the best screenwriting has to offer, unlike the (mostly elite, wealthy and educated) insiders. Not a fan!

I think MrBeast/Beast Industries tricked the media pretty hard with his “$5 billion valuation”. He got an investment last January...and no one asked what it was actually worth!
If you see an article written after last week about MrBeast, you really should ask yourself: Why didn’t the author mention MrBeast’s valuation and how it likely isn’t real?

Netflix/Matt & Ben’s The Rip is a hit, for sure, in the top 15% of films that came out since Dec-2024 and it ranks 16th among the 464 first-run movies to ever make the Nielsen charts going back to 2020, so again top 5%.
