Great talking to Oliver on @aiforalltomorrows.bsky.social !! Thank you for coming on the show!
As part of the podcast @aiforalltomorrows.bsky.social I was able to talk to the AMAZING Casey Michel of the Human Rights Foundation about #democracy corruption #trump and more. Share and follow as you feel called! #ai #tech #technology open.spotify.com/show/1jeI7ID...

UPDATE: I am the new director of @aiforalltomorrows.bsky.social - our aim is to tell the stories of people developing and using technology to serve the public good. Basically we're The Moth but for inspirational tech storytelling. Stay tuned! #hci #tech #ai #education www.youtube.com/@ai-for-all-...
This is very cool work that I got involved with at the end of my postdoc, led by the spectacular @morganklauss.bsky.social, along with @whatknows.bsky.social, @dylantdoyle.bsky.social, @diptodas.bsky.social, Katy Weathington, and Adrian Petterson
I should use Bluesky again so here’s a picture of me with Joseph Gordon-Levitt backstage at the Shared Futures AI Forum put on by @aspeninstitute.bsky.social
🎉🎉 I DID A TED TALK! 🎉🎉
Even better, it’s all about #AI and humanity (but also death and grief, if you’re into that). Please like, comment, and SHARE — both because I’m super proud of it, but also because of the algorithm (!) #HCI #computing #technology #faith

A wonderful Ted talk from @dylantdoyle.bsky.social that gets at the intersection of our humanity and gen AI - how we may look for solace and how it might make us uncomfortable www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7b_...
**please share** as an early career academic, I was going to spend the next two years developing AI tools for cancer prediction. Instead, #trump + admin took my job. Regardless of #politics, why follow cruelty at the expense of #innovation? dylantdoyle.medium.com/i-am-an-ai-m... #hci #academia
I wrote a thing! Covering research on data access to medical researchers. Co-authored with @cfiesler.bsky.social @jesspater.bsky.social @whatknows.bsky.social — thanks to @theconversation.com @us.theconversation.com for the opportunity! @cuboulder.info
Do you have 30 minutes to listen to @cfiesler.bsky.social talk about #tiktok joy and tech? New pod launch!
On one hand: it’s kind of funny that a major Chinese corporation needs a publicity stunt to announce their fealty to an egotistic ‘leader of the free world.’ On the other hand, we’re all kind of screwed, huh?
Hot take, but I am beginning to think all of these Meta decisions are, uh, pretty concerning
“You know, the girl who was in here earlier had gums like raw steaks” - my dentist, right before putting a metal hook in my mouth while describing the death of her father for 15 minutes.
#tech media. I love you. But oh my god what are we doing spending our time covering this dumb saga content.techgig.com/technology/d...

No shade to robust academic research accounts developing principles for responsible tech, but @weratedogs.com is by far my favorite Bluesky account. All the dogs are so good.
For a new media project I am cold-calling Governers for interviews and omg y'all this is kind of terrifying (getting some interest though!)
Behind the scenes of @whatknows.bsky.social and I’s interview with Denver 7 News about our new @digital-legacy.bsky.social Digital Legacy Clinic @cuboulder.info @cuboulder.bsky.social -a pro-bono service for everyday people to create an end-of-life data plan or manage a loved one’s data 🙌
Wednesday: “oh hey this job search thing is fun!”
Thursday: fun thanksgiving no job search yay
Friday: well alright, I guess I’ll submit a thing, but this kind of sucks its pretty out
Saturday: I’m going to just go live in a cave next year and everything will be fine probably
I appreciate this perspective! My search has been focused mostly on R1 research-focused. I hadn't thought about the hindrance aspect. Having gone to a liberal arts institution for college (many years ago ha) that actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the correction!
Thanks for coming to my Bluesky talk/job search therapy session. Add your own trends if you're seeing them :)
6. Lastly, public policy interest is on the rise. But many departments are actively navigating the role that HCI/CSCW/CS should actually play in public policy. Open question to track going forward.
5. Many colleagues are putting out over 100 applications this year, with the expectation of not hearing back from 95% of them. That is an interesting dynamic (maybe the same as every year? not sure).
4. Senior scholars are INCREDIBLY supportive and have been very willing to serve as mentors in the job search process, when asked.
3. Hiring committees are VERY aware that there is an enrollment cliff coming. It is difficult to read how that is impacting hiring decisions.
