Thanks for the tip, yes he's quite good.

Merry Christmas
I didn't know you were into football!
Radio TechCon will return to IET London: Savoy Place this month with a programme that places radio technology, engineering and international collaboration at its centre
I hope he or she does. It's just natural selection, oh dear how sad.
So they sent another small wild creature to sort it out!
Rupert Brun mid-talk at Radio TechCon, with the Radio TechCon stage branding and blurred second screen behind him.
The pips have been heralding the news and giving accurate time on BBC Radio for 100 years - but why do they exist? How do they work? And what is the nature of time itself?

Not many people can before they are even thirty!
Power Point slide saying 'Hearing the Past: methods and explorations' Professor Mariana LΓ³pez, School of Arts and Creative Technologies, University of York. The background image is of Dowkabottom Cave from the inside looking upwards and outwards. We see a ladder used to descend into the cave
Preparing the slides for this Thursday's online event 'Hearing the past: methods and explorations'. I'll be presenting online together with Amy Woods as part of the IET series of events and produced by the wonderful @barwickgreen.bsky.social

I can't believe it, so young in years and character. I had the pleasure of working with him at Maida Vale so many times.
I'll be there, will you?
Come and have a chat at Olympia stand D22 where you can see the latest sound mixing desks from DHD audio GmbH. We are showing the RM1, a full capability broadcast desk in a small, USB powered box, and you use any touch-screen device with a browser to control it.

People playing with their phones is the main reason I no longer go to the cinema.

My aunt and uncle have a lab called Dyson...
Why?
It's not every day one of my friends publishes a proper book, so I had to buy a copy. Sonic Pasts by @marianajlopez.bsky.social and sonic present by me.
These look far better than the Brewdog one I was given last year. Despite the cams all having different branding, there were only about 4 different beers, all variations on alcoholic grapefruit juice, presented in a wide variety of brightly coloured cans with "creative" names.
Tildonk is great though, I shall use that.
There's still time to buy tickets for @radiotechcon.bsky.social on Monday in London. Swanky venue, clever people talking about cool stuff, and a quiz at the end. That's just after me wittering about 100 years of the pips.

Some discussion of future DTT switch-off at #DTGSummit. Don't panic, in 2009 we were told analogue radio would switch off in 2015!
I use one with a very thick lead, to avoid the breakage problem which I agree is a real nuisance with thin lead.
I prefer a high-quality propelling pencil. Unlike a pen, it has an undo function.
I first heard Spooky Men's Chorale at WOMAD several years ago, with @greavsie.bsky.social but I've only just discovered their "Dancing Queen". Give it a try. music.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgr0...
He's a clever boy!
True love!
He was mentioned in one of the Radio 4 comedy shows, I forget which. They suggested enticing him away with the phrase "don't be a loser, come down the boozer".
You can often see a heron trying to get airborne in a hurry in our garden. A heron comes to look at the goldfish. Our two Staffies then run down the garden to look at the heron. Why they do this I've no idea, they are thankfully never going to get close to it, but heron vertical takeoff is real.
