a|state second edition features an easily-digested iteration of Forged in the Dark with numerous developments such as The Trouble Engine, faction rules, caring as an action and more. It's packed with glorious art, unique setting material and is a hefty tome of wonder. handiwork.games/games/astate
If I want to play a crunchy game with rules for everything, I'll play Ars Magica. If I want a game that's all atmosphere and attitude I'll play Apocalypse World. If I want adaptability and weird settings I'll play Fate or 24XX, or any GMless story game. I never played D&D, and probably never will.
Okay, I'm going to do a zine about branding, but also, I'm not going to resist any urge I might have to be weird about it.
"A unique selling proposition is an attempt to show people that your shit is so different you don't HAVE competition; you're not in the same class. This will fail, but try."
And no, Iβm not letting a 5-day blackout stop me from working on This Means War
Am I getting even more done because of the blackout??? Quite possibly

Rayroads is probably the last game of what I've been jokingly calling my Dry-Erase Period. I have a couple other games in the pipeline that might use markers in a minor way but as far as "marker games", this is the last one barring some sudden inspiration. π§΅

I don't feel like I talk about my political core beliefs very much here on bluesky.
I believe that prison abolition, decolonization, and the dismantling of both capitalism and ethnically-demarcated militarized nation-states are all essential to human dignity and achievable within my lifetime.
Make A Scene is looking for fresh new parlor larps. They will give you $300 and help you tune up your game and then run it multiple times. They premiere first-time designers every year! It's a great festival and the sort of thing I'd love to see more of. makeascenemn.org/en/call-for-...
Just this morning I was thinking how much I'd like to see a series of interviews with folks operating at 'upper indie' scale in which they explain their business process.
I'm just a single jerk doing my thing, I can't stand working with people and I've made most of my process up on the fly.
We hear that sssome people are jusst dissscovering that freeform larping exissts.
Yessssss

discovered some life-changing ttrpg tech during fridayβs session: after taking a mid session break, before getting back into the scene, do a sports style locker room interview with each player (in character). itβs 1) funny 2) focusing 3) immediately and personally characterizing

Hello, new followers!
My name is Avery, and I'm a tabletop roleplaying game designer who makes games about self-doubt, queerness, community, and the apocalypse. Learn more here: buriedwithoutceremony.com
I also talk about the necessity of an anticapitalist, decolonized, gender-liberated world.
"What decision do you need this for?"
In a few weeks, I'll crowdfund the 20th Anniversary Edition of Play Unsafe, my book about improvisation, story and roleplay.

@lizziestark.bsky.social and I wrote a game about grinding the gears of oppression in the most annoying, deniable ways, inspired by the 1944 Simple Sabotage Field manual of the OSS. It's cozy! You play cute forest animals who work in a trap factory for predators! sixofhounds.itch.io/slow-walk
Just sourcebooks or also games? If games are interesting, too - then @jmstar.bsky.social's Grey Ranks comes to mind.

Every RPG is a one-page RPG if you only read one page of it
I've played in many cultures and I don't even believe immersion is a thing. When someone brings it up I mentally replace the word with "selfishness" and everything gets much clearer.
I broke and rebuilt my own mind about a thing. Is roleplaying *really* a conversation?
I think this is excellent advice. I use an e-ink paper tablet, a bit wider than A5, and for me this point usually arrives after 3 pages, which take me at least 30 mins to write.
Some days I only manage 1 page, some days I'm too tired to write. But the days when I do the full 3 feel better.
Hands-on activities for tabletop game design workshops!

It helped me give myself credit for just showing up to the page each day and go from there. Another exercise in the book, The Artist's Date, was also meaningful for me.
Doris Rusch talks about them in her monograph Making Deep Games - Designing Games with Meaning and Purpose (Taylor & Francis 2017)
I've been doing some form of the morning pages for 5 years, and for me it works. My mornings are busier than my evenings, so I often do them at night.
They're my journal and it's like a day meditation for me. I liked The Artist's Way, and I seem to remember that @paulczege.bsky.social did them too

I meant to do this last week but time sure is slippery at the moment. Here's my playtest report for AW-Dark Ages.
We've been playing, adapting, and re-writing this game for a few months at this point, and we just wrapped a 6ish session playtest with some new folks
It's really exciting to see the design minds of Andrew Gillis and Luke Jordan working on Apocalypse World: Dark Ages with the Bakers' blessings. Can't wait to see the game.
This is such an important @rascal.news read highlighting the awesomeness and depth of @laurieblake.bsky.social as a designer and as an activist! So stoked to see your words and your work highlighted. π
