She said that she too asked for a raise a couple of months ago, and our boss went through her bills and said no. I'm just kinda over it, if you know what I mean. You put your best effort into something, make it nice, no complaints for the whole year and lots of compliments from customers, but it all comes down to 'if I need it', which I do." The first line of Alison's response is: "WHY IS YOUR BOSS GOING THROUGH YOUR BILLS?"

I think it refers to Allison Bailey of “I’m suing Stonewall” fame, who was notoriously inept as a barrister. Someone (I forget who) did a joke on Twitter a while back where she was in court and went to open her briefcase and a load of spaghetti fell out.
