A short girl dressed in uniform stood at the top of the stairs leading down the hatch, her sleek jet-black hair swaying in the summer breeze. Her eyes were sharp and determined, and her skin was like porcelain. A man dressed in white stood beside her, offered her his hand, and accompanied her down the steps, holding up the hem of her cape so she would not step on it by accident. Once he had fulfilled his duty, he bowed down to the girl, and swiftly made his way back into the airship. The hatch closed behind him, the sails rolled open again, and within moments it lifted off the ground, vanishing into the distance as quickly as it had appeared. The entire group was left in a stunned silence. “Greetings,” proclaimed the girl. “I am Umeko Chiba, heiress of the Chiba family. And I have arrived.” Lani, Dwyn and Reese watched from the sidelines as the black-haired woman from earlier paced towards the princess-like girl to welcome her and cross her off the list. “Urgh,” gagged Reese. “So full of herself. Grand entrance and everything. Can’t stand her already.” Lani chuckled. “Good thing all you have to do is go to school with her, not marry her.” “Heavens, don’t make me imagine that!” groaned Reese. “I’d rather be six feet under, seriously.” Meanwhile, Dwyn’s eyes shone in quiet observation. She watched how the girl conducted herself, how effortlessly she moved with an efficiency that made it seem like every single one of her motions had been planned out in advance, and how her glossy hair glimmered in the sun. There was a feeling in her chest when she saw her smile; one she knew she shouldn’t have. She tried her very best to ignore it, and chose to look elsewhere instead.
