Front page of a 2008 article in Industrial and Organizational Psychology entitled "Stubborn Reliance on Intuition and Subjectivity in Employee Selection." Link to article: https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1754-9434.2008.00058.x
Few weeks go by without me thinking of this Highhouse article on our “stubborn reliance” on intuition in hiring: doi.org/10.1111/j.17...
It’s a powerful reminder of the gap between what works (structure, standardization) and what we often rely on—subjective feelings of “fit.”
Second commute since lockdown (working in London once a week) and train overcrowded - missing 4 carriages due to breakdown. Driver announced it’s happened several times this week! Seat reservations also broken…EMR
Playing with some formulas for working out the commercial and non commercial value of skills. Read this open source paper last night - some use in the thinking, but the methodology isn’t strong www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
I have no idea why Prince William is sitting down with a rapist and convicted felon. I don’t give a single shit he’s a working Royal. When men sit down with rapists and smile for cameras you’re normalising rape.
Merry Christmas to you and yours
I like the user experience, much easier than others

Ditto had a similar experience. Reflecting on the messages in them. Wishing you a relaxed and deep sleep 😴 tonight
This is so true. I’m seeing this with process mapping and skills. @guywwallace.bsky.social interested on your take and vast experience
It saves time and energy, healthier and easier if you have family that want/cook different things

I’ll largely be posting here on skills based approaches, OD and coaching…with a dash of tech and AI. I may dip my toe into L&D occasionally. For the last five years my work has been on large transformations, not much at all in the L&D realms
I broke mine - it fell over at dance. Glass on the dance floor
It depends on the context of your organisation, but having a product manager for skills is essential. It doesn’t have to be someone with an HR/L&D background. SBOs are data driven - so it requires someone with that mindset
The operating model and governance
Why are you doing it? What’s the problem you wish to solve? Experiment 🧪 There are challenges with the legacy mindset of full out launch 🚀 Is it even right for your org? You might want to use aspects in parts of your org. Involve mngrs + ees early and co create
And I’ve written about SBOs here, albeit with an L&D lens www.consulther.co.uk/can-skills-f...
Where do I start? Too much focus on the skills taxonomy and tech, with change as an afterthought. I’ve been working in this space for nearly 5 years. It’s akin to digital transformation in legacy organisations. I’ve spoken on some podcasts - you can see them here: www.consulther.co.uk/our-services
Great piece on skills assessments and SBOs.

Show Up. Do good.
Definitely 👍 I can’t say the same for my L&D passion. That’s been waning for a while
This 🙌 and it’s why I’m spreading my wings too. In some ways flying back to my tribe
I’d love to see something different. I’m kinda tired of the same old stuff that’s on LinkedIn. I’m spreading my wings and diversifying. Finding much more good stuff
He’s got all the attributes for it 🤣
I have lost count how many times I’ve watched this and laughed
