Welcome to Deep Lent.
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it this post from @gaudynight78.bsky.social and now I feel it too—penitential and preparing for Holy Week to come.
Welcome to Deep Lent.
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it this post from @gaudynight78.bsky.social and now I feel it too—penitential and preparing for Holy Week to come.
There was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for 12 years & had endured much. She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, “If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.” Immediately her hemorrhage stopped

God of peace, which passes our understanding, make war cease, that your mercy may encompass the world and comfort all who grieve. Amen 🙏🏼
She has nothing to lose.
He knows all about it,
but offers her eternal life.
…
So much about Jesus is revealed
in this 'he said, she said' by the well,
but we do not even learn her name.

No to war and christo-nationalism.
Jesus taught non-violence and love of our neighbor.
Pray for all who have died, are injured, in harms way, and afraid. Pray for peace. Lord, have mercy. 🙏🏼
Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one Father; now and for ever. Amen. #BCP
For protection for the weak and humility for
the strong,
That we may serve others as you serve us in
Christ.

For the growth of love between broken peoples
and nations,
That we may shape our common life as your
kingdom.
For mutual respect between immigrants and
insiders,
That we may welcome your image in all who
come to us. (2/3)
Loving God, in our faith, we pray:
For reconciliation between the violated and
the violent,
That we may rest in your peace.
For generosity between rich and poor people
everywhere,
That we may share the abundance of your
creation. (1/3)
Memories and outcomes blur
in my psyche and prayers;
the same spaces and hospitals,
hoping for different results.
New #poem inspired by #John9
I know the ways of learning…
I know the ways of honour…
I know the ways of pleasure…
Yet I love thee.
I know all these and have them in my hand;
Therefore not seeled but with open eyes
I fly to thee

So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door. Then some people came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. And when they could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him

The period from March 10 to March 21 is the only portion of the calendar that's *always* in Lent. I feel like it ought to be recognized as a separate season-within-a-season, called something like "Deep Lent". It's also exactly twelve days, which feels significant.
Leaned me against the tree to die, and rent
By ravening beasts that compassed me, I swooned:
Hast thou no wound?
No wound? No scar?
Yet as the Master shall the servant be,
And pierced are the feet that follow Me;
But thine are whole. Can he have followed far
Who has no wound nor scar?

Poem by Amy Carmichael, saint in today's #LentMadness
Hast thou no scar?
No hidden scar on foot, or side, or hand?
I hear thee sung as mighty in the land,
I hear them hail thy bright ascendant star,
Hast thou no scar?
Hast thou no wound?
Yet, I was wounded by the archers, spent. (1 of 2)
a body of liturgical poetry
In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.

I love Paul, but adore Peter. I don’t think people were just voting *against* Paul. I try to appreciate all the Saints in Lent Madness and then vote for the one I feel more connected to… totally subjective.
For Blankets 🧣❄️
Our Comforter,
you send a blanket
of wool to warm,
of snow to delight,
of manna to feed us
as we need in each season;
wrap us with your presence,
reassure us in the silence,
then unwind us
with arms outstretched
to welcome those in need
of a loving embrace. Amen
when the woman saw that the tree was a delight to the eyes, and to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked

We’ll be chanting the Great Litany tomorrow on the first Sunday of Lent, along with churches around the country and world. #anglican #BCP 📕
God, who uses baskets
to rescue babies sent down rivers
and apostles lowered from windows,
weave our faith to believe
you can work miracles
through the work of our hands. Amen

The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate asked him, “What is truth?”

from the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!" When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Get up and do not be afraid."

Set us free, heavenly Father, from every bond of prejudice and fear; that, honoring the steadfast courage of your servant Absalom Jones, we may show forth in our lives the reconciling love and true freedom of the children of God, which you have given us in your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; Amen. 🕯️
I have borne your terrors with a troubled mind.
They surround me all day long like a flood;
they encompass me on every side.
My friend and my neighbor you have put away from me,
and darkness is my only companion.
