Statement by @yonceforcongress.bsky.social who is running for Congress in FL’s 6th District, regarding the racist chat & comments made by young Republicans at Florida International University.

While we’re all responsible, we look to those running for office to condemn this despicable behavior.

This goes beyond party politics. This isn’t about Republicans versus Democrats.

We can criticize government. We can challenge political leaders. We can fight hard over policy. That’s part of a healthy democracy.

But we do not attack people because of their race.
We do not mock someone’s religion.

We do not target people because of who they are.

This is what happens when leaders stop drawing clear lines. When the line between criticizing policy and attacking people for their race or religion gets blurred, a culture like this grows.

Too many leaders today talk about policy in ways that target people’s race or religion. When that happens, it sends a message to younger activists that this kind of behavior is acceptable.

It isn’t.

This is a failure of leadership. Leadership means setting the tone. Leadership means making it clear that racism and antisemitism have no place in our politics.

We have to stop this.

We are better than this. And we need to demand better from the people who claim to lead.
