I wrote a book/used KDP years ago. I think that might be poking the bear. I like to think that if someone truly found my book meaningful, they'd write a review. Full disclosure: the ones that it does have are from my family and friends.😊

That applies to almost everything I've ever written. One of my life mottoes is, 'if it's not fun, don't do it'. But that makes this 'marketing as an editor' thing tricky...I enjoy the editing, not the sales pitches.

Agreed! I don't have clients at the moment, so my recent illness was less stressful, but health comes first no matter what. I believe that working while sick shortchanges yourself and your clients.

All of the above. They all feature in my novel. But I think friendship doesn't get enough credit, in writing or in life. My best friends mean the world to me. Come to think of it, romance and found family must feature more in books because they're even rarer than friendship.

Do or will these starter packs include editors of each genre? If so, I'm a contemporary romance editor who would be interested.

I wish I could offer a concrete tip. For me, picturing what they look like helped. One girl has curly red hair, so I felt she was a bubbly firecracker. I hope you figure/have figured things out in a way that works for you.🙂

Since my novel's about found family and bonds across demographics, there are a few young kids in it. I'm a kid-at-heart, but mystified by the real deal. Figuring out their mannerisms and dialogue was so hard.

I used to write poetry all the time. I even took a class in high school. I love poetry even more than fiction, because there are no rules unless you want to use them. It's so versatile and a great outlet.

Yes! In my novel, most of the MMCs are older than Jaime. She enjoys learning from them, as do I.

If a story doesn't have an HEA, I feel cheated. I mostly read romance, hence my editing niche, but at times this goes so far that I dislike reading autobiographies of those who have passed because I already know how the "story ends".💔

Now THIS is a great use case for Shakespeare! I'm not a fan of The Bard, but after hearing this I'm proud to be an English major. Bravo, Sir Ian! 👏🫡

Jaime would just hang up. But I have another side character, Dean, who's a prankster. He would probably play along until they got to the credit card bit and spin some kind of story to make them wonder what they got into.🙃

Have I mentioned the limited-character format annoys me? It makes me sound snippy, which isn't my intention. I was only pointing out that I'm a nerd.😂

Finding an #editor should not be like collecting blind bags. You should know exactly what you're getting. At HAGOEDCO, what you see is what you get: a word-loving editor. I self-published my own romance novel, and you can, too!

Be careful what you wish for...I found '1 like =1 answer's that made me blush. They were personal and not genre-based. This is as personal as I'll get. I'll be boring to most people; that just means I spend a lot of time with words, as an editor should. Credit: @mithmeoi.bsky.social
