We rarely do find indications of a specific age in these earlier coins, although it is remarkable that Zeus was depicted in very different fashions in die-related sequences (the obverse dies CD and CE share a common reverse die: δτ) 1/2

Glas paste showing cupids.
These little cupids are working hard to finish their garlands! Eight of them are already hanging from the top, between them erhaps four oscilla(?). This tiny object, which is only 3 cm wide, is made from glas paste and stems from the famous collection of Paul Arndt.

A specific Seleucid reference should be seen in the horse head in the left field on the reverse. The legend on the reverse leaves no doubt about Achaeus’ aspirations: this was a coin of King Achaeus (ΑΧΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ).
More info on the coin can be found here

Coin of Philipp V. of Macedon
The obverse shows a draped and diademed bust of Achaeus, the reverse a depiction of Athena Alkis. The imagery is perhaps influenced by the contemporary silver #coins of Philipp V. of #Macedon (coin shown below from here ikmk.smb.museum/object?id=18... ).
Gold Stater of Achaeus (220–214 BC)
A unique #coin (www.bavarikon.de/object/bav:S...)!
Achaeus was the cousin of Seleucus III and Antiochus III. In 220 he declared himself king and made Sardes the capital of his kingdom. The #gold stater shown below is perhaps to be interpreted as an inauguration issue.

Westermarks book on Akragas is available for free here: urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=... and maybe she discusses the head in more detail! usually the coins are depicted with the crab looking upwards, so the head would not be inverted:)
