Ukraine gave up its ambitions to join NATO and declared itself non-aligned on July 1st, 2010.

The caretaker government appointed following Yanukovych being denounced as a murderer and a thief by his own party and his fleeing the country reaffirmed this status in March of 2014.

The Charter of Paris EXPLICITLY used the HFA as the centerpiece of Russo-European security.

The HFA recognizes the sovereign rights of each country to territorial integrity AND the ability to join ANY alliance.

It was RUSSIA which grossly violated these promises.

HFA, Article 1:

The dissolution of Yugoslavia was an internal matter of the captive nations of Yugoslavia.

The HFA specifically notes the need to honor other international agreements, such as the UN Convention on Genocide, which led to Kosovo's independence.

The implosion of the USSR was caused by RUSSIA.

The Helsinki Final Act contains Russian promises to:

- PEACEFULLY resolve disputes between signatory states
- NOT annex territory without agreement from the other country
- NOT threaten force
- NOT use force
- RECOGNIZE the sovereign right of each country to join ANY alliance.

Which Putin violated

Poland was the first post-1991 NATO member to border Russia.

It was the third NATO member to border Russia.

It has far better transport connections with the bulk of NATO than the Baltic States, and Ukraine was not seeking NATO membership in 2014.

2. Poland's exercise of its sovereign right to join any alliance did not cause Russia to invade non-aligned Ukraine 15 years later.

3. The West already repeatedly agreed to a security agreement authored by Russia.
