Most people don't want anything that has his name on it. And hardcore fans won't accept a version of Firefly where he isn't involved. It's lose-lose.

(For the record, I'd like to see something a bit more concrete than one tweet whose source is "trust me, bro")

The thing is that Firefly, more than almost any other franchise, is completely tied to its creator. Firefly simply cannot exist without Whedon, and he's one of maybe 5 people in entertainment that were succesfully "cancelled."

Seems like a good time to get into the PWHL. The Sirens even have a game at MSG coming up.

Gee, I wonder how they chose that font. Surely they're not trying to trick you that it's some other film with the word "rings" in the title...

Remember that bit in "Marty Supreme" where Gwyneth Paltrow is doing a play and the whole audience is Kevin O'Leary's stooges given comps? Yeah, I don't know why I thought of that...

Caught up with "Marty Supreme" and enjoyed it a lot (certainly much more than "Uncut Gems") but I do think it has one pretty big flaw:

(Spoiler)

Marty should have lost the last game. Him winning that game feels like the film pulling its punches right when it should have gone for the jugular.

I choose to believe this is actually a "Sense8" referance.

Honestly, Chase Infiniti seems like a much more significant snub.

Best Picture: I've only seen 4/10 - pathetic. Of those, "One Battle After Another" takes in stride, but I really need to watch some of these. Hope I'll be able to catch up!

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Director: oh, nice collection of nominees. I'm pretty sure that this is Paul Thomas Anderson's year. He apparently has never one one? Crazy.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Actress: no Chase Infinity? Really? Wooooow. I actually haven't seen any of these, but I can't believe she was less deserving than Kate Hudson. I'm gonna guess Jessie Buckley wins this one just on vibes, basically.

Best Actor: huh, two nominees that have double roles, that's fun. I'd guess the two frontrunners are Dicaprio and Michael B. Jordan (maybe a slight edge to Jordan, since he shows more range), but an argument could be made for any of them.
(Maybe not Ethan Hawke).

Best Cinematography: pretty good category. I think "One Battle After Another" is the choice for me. Apprently "Train Dreams" is one of those "only use natural light"-type movies, so maybe a darkhorse candidate?

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best VFX: this is probably going to "Avatar 3: the Legend of Curly's Gold," or whatever it's called. They might mess around and give it to an actually good movie, so "Sinners" still has a shot.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Sound: I think I might give this one to "One Battle After Another," if only because of the way sound play a key roll in advancing the story, but this is anyone's category, frankly.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Editing: this is always a difficult category (especially this year, when I've only seen two of these). I think "Sinners" might have the edge for me, though I have the supicion that "Marty Supreme" might be a better bet, considering the subject matter.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Production Design: I'm inclined to say "Frankenstein" (the design of Frankenstein's lab is gorgeous), but "Sinners" might have a good shot, too.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Animated Film: of these, I've only seen "Elio," which was fine. I almost saw "Arco," but the timing didn't really work out. But what I think hardly matters. Kpop Demon Hunters can just go and pick up the award now and save everyone the trouble.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best International Film: I've only seen one of these ("The Secret Agent"), and I was a bit ambivalent about it, honestly, so I would like to watch a bunch of these first.
("It Was Just an Accident" counts for France, does it?)

-"Train Dreams" (Ibid.): Nick Cave! This is a pretty good song, with Nick Cave's usual slightly rambly text set to a very pretty piano/acoustic guitar music. Can't imagine it'll do much, but a nice addition to the setlist.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

-"Sweet Dreams of Joy" ("Viva Verdi!"): well, this is a nice litle Lied. Not sure what it has to do with Verdi - it's very clearly in the style of Ralph Vaughn Williams or someone like that. Still, a little neo-romantic song, might make a nice audition song for Soprani.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

-"I Lied To You" ("Sinners"): oh yeah, this is the good stuff. This is the obvious winner for me. The entire film revolves around this song, it soundtracks the kost impressive sequence, and the dude is an incredible singer. What's the point even arguing?

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

-"Golden" ("Kpop Demon Hunters"): so I haven't seen this, and I know this it's beloved by many (the movie itself is probably good!). As a song, though... I'm sorry, this is grating. The singing on the chorus is so high it borders on ear splitting. There has to be better songs from this movie, right?

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Song:
-"Dear Me" ("Diane Warren: Relentless"): "Relentless" is right; how long has Diane Warren done this shtick? I guess she stopped pretending this is about anything other than herself - now the anonymous movie she attached this boring song to is just a documentary about her. Good lord.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Costume Design: I feel like Frankenstein is the easy winner here. From what I've seen, most of the others have pretty boring costuming, and Frankenstein has some fantastic dresses.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Casting: ooh, new category! I don't really know how to judge this one, honestly. Maybe "One Battle After Another," just for finding Chase Infinity out of nowhere? It's a strange category; it feels like an award for overall acting, and to my knowledge all these films have good acting.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Supporting Actor: damn, these are such good choices! I think I'd give the slight edge to Sean Penn, but Delroy Lindo is also a good candidate.

22.01.2026 19:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Best Original Screenplay: "It Was Just an Accident" is a nice left field choice. Anyway, since I've only seen one of these, I guess it's time for the two most beautiful words in the English language: de-fault.
