Image shows Sian Berry stood to the left of campaigner Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, and surrounded by a group of clean air campaigners. All of them are smiling and holding a copy of Ella's Law - the Clean Air (Human Rights Bill).
Image shows Rosamund Adoo-Kiss-Debrah sat next to Sian with a copy of Ella's Law on the table in front of them. They are both reading the Bill that is named in memory of Rosamund's daughter Ella who died aged nine due to exposure to air pollution.
Ellaβs Law has been published π
No child should have the growth of their lungs stunted because of dirty air where they live and play, yet this is the reality of air pollution in England. Ellaβs Law would change this.
My thanks to Rosamund and all the hard-working campaigners demanding change.

Absolutely despicable behaviour yet again from the toxic stove industry. Bullying and lying to councils about campaigns that "were in breach of UK advertising codes" when no complaints are listed on ASA website. This is what an upheld compliant looks like!

Many have made huge profits in the last few years by promoting misinformation at the expense of public health. Would be great if they all go bankrupt. They've had too much influence over government policy via corrupt politicians who don't declare SIA links.

ASA rules against Stove Industry Alliance over misleading claims
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned two advertising claims by the Stove Industry Association (SIA) after ruling that the trade body misled consumers about the environmental impact of ...
The stove industry should be compensating people who were mis-sold these deadly appliances by their outrageously dangerous marketing. Most of their customers would not have bought the stove if they were informed correctly of their emissions and the impact on public health.

Sustainability implies that everyone in the UK should be able to replace their gas boiler and burn wood instead. Do you think this could be achieved without going back to pollution levels of the 1950s? (wood is more polluting than coal per unit of energy) If not, why is it OK for a minority?

Villages often have similar housing density to London suburbs. I know many people who live in villages and are hugely impacted by wood smoke. Any ban or restrictions would undoubtedly have cleaner heating subsidies for those in genuine fuel poverty, but clean air poverty exists too.

Exactly, as always its all about the polluter's "choices" about heating their home. Complete failure to understand that neighbours have no "choice" about tolerating others unnecessarily toxic fumes seeping into our homes.

It really doesn't matter that they are higher - most of the smoke ends up at ground level locally, depending on geography, wind direction and many other factors. Our doorstep seems to be a hotspot for woodsmoke from dozens of chimneys, some are more than 200m away. No excuse in residential areas.

Similar drama needed about air pollution. Donβt let the stove industry & HETAS keep marking their own homework. Its time for HETAS & Defra to lose their licence to poison neighbours with toxic fumes. @dsawsp.org @mumsforlungs.bsky.social have documented case studies of families devastated by smoke.

HETAS don't care about public health. They operate like a protection racket, only prosecuting "rogue traders" that don't pay their fees, not those who put neighbours lives at risk. They recklessly ignore Building Control rules with impunity because they have been given untouchable status in law.

Stove industry are boasting about 7.4% reduction in PM2.5 from domestic combustion! Yes, down from 11.65kt in 2023 to 10.79 in 2024, but it also says wood burning increased from 6.2kt to 6.4kt while other fuels down from 5.5kt to 4.4kt entirely explaining the reduction-probably from coal phase out!

βIn recent years, most emissions from domestic combustion came from households burning wood indoors, which contributed 12 per cent of total PM2.5 emissions and 6 per cent of total PM10 emissions in 2024.β So βmodernβ stoves built to get round Clean Air Act regs with no thought for public health!
