I hope when you need help you ask for it. I hope that you remember you are loved and worth loving. I hope all this and more comes true for you by 2026.
I hope you see someone you’ve missed so badly you cry when you see them. I hope you bear hug someone (consensually) and get bear hugged (consensually) in return.
I hope that in 2025 you surprise yourself. I hope you try a food you’ve never had before. I hope you listen to new music. Learn new words. Go somewhere new in your city, in your neighborhood, that you’ve never been. I hope you make a new friend. I hope you dance and laugh so hard you pee a little.
I hope that in 2025 you will stand in the grass barefoot, that you will be soaked willingly by a warm summer rain, that you will watch a sunset and a sunrise, and that you will make eye contact with a wild animal (non-lethal, please) in its natural habitat.
My hope for you is for fortitude and surrender, both in the right measure. 2025 will have its battles, but many of us have already been fighting at the frontlines and are weary. Know when to surrender. Not forever, but for now. Recognize burnout. Tend to your wounds. You cannot win the fight broken.
I hope that in 2025 you will rediscover who you are, whether that shift be small or large. I hope that you spend enough time focused on YOU that a new shade is added, a new leaf is turned, or a new seed blooms entirely.
And so, here at the end of 2024, my wish for 2025:
It’s my best effort to focus intention for the year. To chart a course for my heart and spirit that I can stay true to regardless of where the days and fate may take me. And it is also my habit to make this wish for others too, in the spirit of community and friendship and hope.
I am not big on resolutions. Perhaps because a year is both too big and too small to assign to one thing. Instead, it’s been my practice for several years to end one year with a wish for the next.
Sam’s commitment to creating opportunities through contract work where we might not be able to offer full time positions should not be understated here. It’s been a hard couple years in games, but this mattered to him, to our team, to our story, and game. Our ENTIRE writing team for BL4 is amazing!!
When i was in high school, i played a lot of borderlands 2 with my brothers— “played” is a generous term. i spent a lot of time dying, thinking “i could write some of this.” and you know what? Eventually i did, because i can announce i was a contract writer on Borderlands 4!
When I was 12, I used to smear lines of black eyeshadow all over my face and call it my "Lilith makeup." When I was 17, I stayed home from school to watch the Borderlands 3 announcement. Now, I get to announce that I was a contract writer on Borderlands 4 :,)

I’m thrilled to announce that I wrote on BORDERLANDS 4 as a contract writer! Borderlands has been my favorite video game series since I was far too young to be playing it, and having this be my first game credit is one of the greatest honors imaginable.
