Fine exhibition, just a shame they didn't have the cane.

A nice parallel in my logs: It's a Wonderful Life was my second log of the year and my second-to-last one. This might have something to do with my becoming a father again in between the two viewings, but I cried harder the second time.

Did I watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles on the 31st of December just to reach 100 films logged? Maybe...

Great film though, Candy is a powerhouse.

Nothing too surprising here, but the idea that Magaro's 30-second role as "voice of sex offender" in The Materialists probably pushed him into the top slot did give me a chuckle.

I recognized his voice too, so the inclusion is fully earned.

Ooh I love that map! (And not just because it gives the impression that Belgium has conquered Germany and Luxembourg.)

Look how happy he is. GDT just living his best life. Getting Netflix deals (including the elusive theatrical release) for his passion projects. Hanging out with Godzilla.

Protect this man at all costs!

First watch of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) yesterday. Might be one of the top ten endings of all time. Literally shouted at the television.

I also spent a day at Rock en Seine, which must be the only festival banning beef from its food stands whilst also having a stand where you can buy vapes. Aaah, the French.

Some random thoughts after another three days in #Paris:
- The renovated interior of Notre Dame is better than I expected (the lighting is great)
- Montmartre still blows
- Keeping up a diet in Paris is intensely difficult
- Cinema culture is the best, so much respect for new films and revivals

Oh, the time factor in the game is just a plot point; there's no actual in-game deadlines or timers. You can take as long as you want playing and finishing it. I totally get that you'd want to play games to get away from deadlines and stress.

Well, Four Travelers is completely free on Steam so you can dive right in! It's the only game of the four that's isometric (and gorgeously styled).

But An English Haunting is great also, it has fun puzzles that never overstepped my own logical reasoning and had a nice falling-dominoes structure.

You might think about canceling your Sunday plans as well because it's by far the longest one on the list, playing both seasons will easily run up to about 10 hours :)

(Re)visited this pixel-horror quartet. They're similar but different and I love them. All great examples of how to capture time/place/mood without photorealistic graphics, treat mature subjects without feeling exploitative and provoke a sense of dread through expressive writing, music and visuals.

Not the biggest fan of the new #Superman movie BUT the casting and characterization were excellent, which hopefully bodes well for future installments.

Also, VERY pleased with this:

I thought this one would be kind of hard with how popular Letterboxd has become, but it turns out there's a bunch of great movies needing some more love.

It's such a weird criticism. Wes has released 13 films in 30 years. There's been a couple thousand films released in that period that don't look like Wes Anderson films. If his signature style is so annoying, maybe... watch more movies? We absolutely have room to let singular artists be singular!

The artwork was featured in the recent exhibition chronicling the Nazi treatment of modern art at the Picasso museum in Paris. A very poignant experience, sadly with more than a few current day echoes.

Otto Freundlich's 1935 painting 'Homage to the people of colour'. Above the painting is a quote (in French and English) by Jankel Adler: "We will face the imminent danger of the destruction of all personal and political liberties in Germany if it does not prove possible in the last minute to bring together all forces, however different their principles may be, that are united in their opposition to fascism."

In 1943, Freundlich was deported to Sobibor concentration camp, where he was murdered.
