Bill Mazeroski and Roberto Clemente were teammates for 17 years—Clemente debuted 1 year earlier, and their final games were 1 day apart (Games 4-5 of 1972 NLCS).

Maz retired when he was no longer an effective player, Clemente’s career ended tragically. Mazeroski outlived his friend by 53 years.

In 1967, 6-year-old Mark
believed that George Smith’s nickname was Reggie. I had George’s card, and there was only one Smith in the Red Sox box scores. I had a similar problem with Oriole infielders Bob Johnson and Dave Johnson.

Used to be multiple fights in the crowd every game at Fenway in the 1980s. Now it’s like Disneyland. (This comment could also refer to transition from filthy to clean.) It is no longer an affordable place to go just to get hammered and pass out in the 6th inning.

Frank Robinson is the only player in history to win Rookie of the Year, league MVP, All-Star game MVP, and World Series MVP. As a lagniappe, he added an extra MVP (giving him one in each league) and Manager of the Year.

When I have hired, I consider that diversity creates a healthier, more productive work environment and a better end product, and also consider that some applicants have disadvantages in the process that would not effect their performance. Most hires were still white men, but everyone was qualified.
