2/3 Since 2020, Stay Housed LA funding has allowed us to exponentially increase representation for tenants facing eviction in Southeast LA. Executive Director Kate Marr joined fellow legal aid leaders at LA city hall to support continued funding for this essential work.

Loss of Rights and/or Property: In civil matters like eviction, you can lose your home and access to future housing. Financial Consequences: Those sued for unpaid debts could be financially devastated by unfavorable judgments without the ability to manage or negotiate claims effectively. Emotional and Mental Stress: Facing legal problems without an attorney is incredibly stressful. Inequality of Justice: The legal system is meant to be fair, but those who cannot afford legal help are at a serious disadvantage in court or negotiations.

Navigating the legal system isn’t easy. Without the right support, people can suffer significant consequences. Legal aid attorneys play an essential role in bridging the gap for those who cannot afford to hire an attorney.

At last week’s all-staff retreat, we reflected on our work, strengthened the well-being skills that sustain this work, and built shared direction for the year ahead.
