For everyone up in arms about #Disney and ABC's decision to take Jimmy Kimmel off the air: Why would we expect corporate capitalists to put free speech above profits when they won't put a livable planet for trillions of beings above their next quarterly earnings?

Which is the bigger testament to living in #CrazyTown:
- That EV adoption might be held back by the fact that Americans have too much crap in their garages to put in a charger OR

Instead of an exponential acceleration of knowledge and intelligence, #AI should be seen as a force of rapid wealth and power consolidation, resource drawdown, and the further destruction of critical thinking, cooperation, and creativity just when we need them most.

One thing not discussed enough about the post #collapse future is how many blackberries there will be.
We need a new term for when Trump waves a shiny bauble to his anti-woke mob, like the Commanders story: An Epstein Whistle.
In my 17 years with @postcarbon.org we've produced a dozen books, I don't know how many reports, dozens and dozens of online events, thousands of articles, hundreds of podcast episodes, etc. But the thing that might have given me most joy was this from 14 years ago:

Can you just imagine the kinds of conspiracy theories we’re going to get when Trump dies?
Loved the convo between @jvl.bsky.social and @timmiller.bsky.social on the douchiest of douchebags, Marc Andreesen. They almost had as much fun as we did when we eviscerated Andreesen's Techno-optimist Manifesto: www.resilience.org/stories/2023...
"He said one of the sites would cover an area nearly the size of Manhattan (59.1 sq km/22.8 sq miles)."
Someone might want to consider unplugging and then replugging our economy, if this is how it behaves "rationally."
@sanders.senate.gov perpetually looks like he can't believe he has to put up with this shit. And I feel that 💯.
60 years later and how much better (or worse) would such an experiment go?
There's lots of talk about the negative impacts of declining capacity for attention, hardly any about the crisis of purpose. That is already on red alert after generations of being told our purpose is to produce and consume. Take away the produce part?
Absolute insanity, though as current constituted the energy transition is a continuation of the narrative of progress, which sees no biophysical limits to increasing material consumption and human domination/destruction of the rest of the natural world.
This is what #resistance looks like?
Classic whistling past the graveyard @nytimes.com and @housedemocrats.bsky.social.
You know things are bad when debating which elements of the Cruel Capitalist Crapsandwich (AKA Trump's BBB) is worst feels like betting on which of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse will win the Kentucky Derby.
Any claim of being the pro-life party should now and forever be received with howls of derision. Among many, many horrors this bill is essentially a gigantic fuck you to today's and future children -- human and non-human.

I guess the thinking is that with #AI and #climate breakdown, there won't be future generations?
Is widespread AI deployment the most extreme example of anti- precautionary principle practice?
Would you say Manhattan Project? CRISPR?
Speaking of #polycrisis, Trump and other dark triad forces sure know how to use (sometimes manufactured) crises to achieve their goals.
This is a textbook of interactions within a #polycrisis. Particularly interactions across social/economic/political domains and environmental ones. That said, tech- and venture-driven carbon capture is a bullshit false hope IMHO. The sooner we look to real and lasting responses the better.
