Working for a government agency that is constantly yelling at us about "meeting the moment" during a period where every day there are fresh new hells to deal with has been weighing on me extra hard lately. I am so exhausted.

It is a new week, and why not punch the Monday Blues in the dang face by devoting your heart and mind to my extremely queer trans-centric Portland magical girl novels? There is so much fun monster fighting and lesbian happenings and big emotions contained within these pages. magicariot.com/buy

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?Β (3/9/26) Happy Monday bookish people! I hope this Monday is treating you well, especially those of you who still have to deal with daylight savings time. I woke up to a very dark morning and I'm not afraid to admit that I'm fairly exhausted today. On the bright side, it was smooth sailing on the transit commute to work. So it's not all bad.

Here's a look at what I've been reading lately!

For the evening crowd - why not check out my new story up at Nightmare Magazine? It’s got monsters, civil servants, and dogs.

I have figured out the plot twist to this book as of three chapters ago, and now I'm just finishing it because I'm already so close to the ending.

Maybe I just need to re-read The Ritual? I don't know what kind of horror my brain is craving, but I must find it.

I've written up a brief script for anyone who wants to call or write your representatives regarding this bill (yes, even the ones you think won't care). PLEASE DO THIS IF YOU ARE ABLE. This bill *cannot* pass.

You can find your representatives here: www.congress.gov/members/find...

This was prompted by a haunted house book, but it's so applicable to so many books I read haha.

I swear, so many plots to horror books could be solved by people just lighting things on fire and yet THEY NEVER DO. Haunted house? Light it on fire. Source of power for a witch? Light it on fire.

This is one thing I very much respect about Supernatural haha.

To bloom after theΒ gloom Photo by JOB on Pexels.com We've reached the part of the year where the sun is slowly starting to stay out longer every day. Where our Southern California weather starts to feel like what the movies always depict it as, and very confused flowers start to bloom in earnest because the days are warm. I love this time of year. It always feels like a promise of something new and exciting.

Book Review: Roll for Danger – The Cursed Catacombs by NickΒ Eliopulos Adventure awaits in this middle-grade fantasy series that invites young readers to step into the shoes of of the story’s hero! Combining elements of table-top roleplaying and pick-your-poison storytelling, a roll of the dice determines whether they’ll score a legendary win...or an epic fail. Set in a classic high-fantasy setting, Seth is last-surviving apprentice of the great wizard Bristleboor. One day, Bristleboor sends Seth on a mission to find an elusive flower that grows in the tunnels under the castle they live in. Aided by an imprisoned imp named Calivore, Seth traverses the tunnels and comes upon monsters to fight and puzzles to solve while learning secrets about himself…and his master. By the end, he and the reader will need to make choices about where and with whom their loyalties lie and what kind of hero they want to become. In this new adventure series from Nick Eliopulos, the reader becomes the character, getting to make their own choices about how the story will unfold. Or do they? Some chapters will give options while others will ask the reader to roll a six-sided die and let fate decide. It’s an interactive reading experience like no other that will allow young readers to tap into a Dungeon & Dragons style of storytelling and give them an early introduction to pick-your-poison storytelling and table-top roleplaying.

β€œIt was the voice of a preacher, a voice of the past, a voice for cathedrals, a voice from a time before microphones. It was a voice that denounced witches and flogged sinners. It was a voice that sang Latin while women burned at the stake and men were crushed beneath stones.” - HorrorstΓΆr

Post from Art Director Bill Robinson on LinkedIn saying:

Welp, it finally happened. I was hired to work on a MAJOR live action Hollywood film (and I mean it’s one of the biggest anticipated films of the year). They needed a small animated sequence and wanted a character designer. I was handed a ChatGPT image and told β€œmake it different”. I did - I spent hours finessing the design into something better and more specific for the character in the film. Waited a week for notes - then was told they got clearance from legal to use the original AI image instead. No need for any further work. This is what the director wanted.

What are we doing as a society? What’s the endgame here? Replace every human until we are all homeless? I just don’t get it. If a major Hollywood film with a huge budget doesn’t see the need to work with real artists, is there any hope left?

Dude regularly works for Disney, DreamWorks, Netflix and CN so speculate away. But this sucks no matter which studio is doing it, and gross to think some major movie this year is running with a plagiarized image from ChatGPT.
