Kelowna park work being completed with a bit of cheer #Kelowna
Just sports in general. To make it to the elite level you basically need to be wealthy. My local ski club competitive program is something like $15k a year
I should have some policy opinions or w/e. But what's going through my mind is "boy, that must be rough for staff caught in the middle."
In contrast I can take a reporter to a project site if they ask. But, then they're stuck hearing my tree facts for an hour. So that's probably why they don't ask
I'm much happier working for a municipality than I ever was at the Province or the Feds.
One reason is, if a reporter has a policy question, they can just talk to staff about it.
In contrast it looks impossible to get an answer out of GCPE about the CRI funding.
This is horrific. I was so hoping for a better outcome

Needless to say, sounds like the divorce is getting messy.
I also wondered today how long it'll be before LLM's train themselves on LLM generated text posted online. Probably happening already
Humans taking LLM'S at face value is both scary and fascinating. Friends are going through a divorce. Ex-wife used LLM to see what she is "entitled" to. Ex-husband did the same as an experiment. Gave them very different answers for the same situation, but skewed towards who was prompting.
A quick look at ICBC data tells me my bike lane crossing (Ethel and Harvey aka highway 97) has the highest number of crashes involving cyclists in the Southern Interior.
Granted, it's a popular protected bike lane that sees heavy use. But maybe that's a problem intersection 🤔
I wear high vis, use lights, and a bike lane when biking to work, and crossing the highway is still sketchy.
My record is three near misses in one crossing (right turning vehicle, left turning, and another left turning all almost hit me in the same crossing).
Honestly boycotting the World Cup would be the most effective and probably the least disruptive of all of the options available to Europe. I’m not sure how you can send teams and fans to contribute to a spectacle designed entirely to celebrate a guy trying to invade your territory.
Civ VII and just pulled off an espionage action with 100% chance of detection.
At this point I'd probably load from an autosave

Your in-depth work covering that flood plain really makes me wonder what under-the-surface stories we're missing across the province due to a lack of local journalism.

I don't know if his name is Derek, but that's what I called him in my mind. You're a legend, Derek.
However I got a chuckle going through the single lane section of highway 7 by Hope (the only route through at the time), and the crew cleaning up the rock slide consisted of one machine operator plus traffic control.
Good job Derek, single handedly keeping the road to all of Canada open
My wife, baby, dog, and I made a very slow 30ish hour journey back home to the interior yesterday and today. Seems to me the infrastructure linking the lower mainland to the rest of Canada reaaaally isn't built to withstand the new climate normal.

Both express shipping, both private shipping.
I'm not an economist, but I feel like if we want Canadians to buy Canadian maybe we should improve cross country shipping options?
That being said, I'm glad I live in a city currently building bike infrastructure like it's a race
Imagine if 20% of construction fatalities were just unlucky members of the public walking past a job site. We'd have public outcry and some sort of commission instead of just
Although I'm not surprised 20% of car crash fatalities are cyclists and pedestrians, I'm disappointed the government response is *shrug*.
Canada is currently experiencing a large, multi-jurisdictional outbreak of measles that began in October 2024 with cases in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. While transmission has slowed recently, the outbreak has persisted for over 12 months, primarily within under-vaccinated communities. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has notified the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) that Canada no longer holds measles elimination status. PAHO's Measles and Rubella Elimination Regional Monitoring and Re-Verification Commission reviewed recent epidemiological and laboratory data, confirming sustained transmission of the same measles virus strain in Canada for a period of more than one year.
UPDATE: Canada has announced that it has lost its measles elimination status.
This is a direct result of the increase in anti-vax disinformation, which has caused large, sustained outbreaks in the country over the last year.

The Jays' run drove home to me how much I've enjoyed getting into F1 *without* having a specific team/driver to root for.
-20 drivers 10 teams to watch
-A battle for mid table can be equally as exciting as podium
-Sunday morning races that don't interfere with dinner + bedtime
-Cars go vroooooom
Controlled burn set for Kelowna's Knox Mountain on Thursday #Kelowna
Reducing fire risk with prescribed burn in Knox Mountain Park #Kelowna
Waiting for the employer.
Apparently rally planned for Oct 6 at the leg.
Picket line around the leg would be hilarious - what self respecting NDP MLA or staffer would dare cross a picket line?
