Zafo. Pero pues, podrΓamos estar peor.
At this point in time, I don't think anyone in their right mind would want to govern a country and/or empire. I'll just welcome our AI overlords and call it a day.
Speaking of which, here are some pictures of our way back to Guadalajara after a day trip we had to extend an extra night because of all the disturbs. These were some of the blockades. We counted 16 groups of burnt cars on our way home.
All this during our annual trip to Mexico, amid chaos and unexpected craziness (some craziness is always expected in Mexico).
So, after a week of hyperfocus and going through (too) many Christening acts, public records, and more, it's done.
It turns out that it was true.
Now I have to figure out how to claim the Aztec empire.
After a talk with my brother in law about his delving with genealogy and trying to map his family origins, I remember my grandma saying she was related to a Mexican president and (through that line) to Moctezuma (one of the last Aztec emperors).
There is a specific kind of heart-stretch that happens when I return to Mexico. Iβm reminded of how much I ache for my country, my food, and my people. But Iβm also faced with how much 4 years in Germany has changed me. π²π½π₯¨
Home is no longer a place, but a messy collision of two worlds.
This is so cool.
I opened the windows to air the apartment (German tradition/necessity during winter) and, I kid you not, could hear some Americans having a conversation from three blocks away.
Coming from a really loud culture: How?
Also, have I become Germanized?
Gracias por las recomendaciones!
Which are your favorite accounts to follow here? Let me know your suggestions for web, comics, board games, and everything "geeky."
It also reminds me that I'm just an old kid. And also that I love to see my wife looking at toys and games and being excited. I don't know, it's cool to never lose that part of you and it's something I admire of her.
Also, this week my wife and I visited the Nuremberg Toy Fair. It is a trade fair, but it's so cool to see new toys going into the market, the resurgence of open play, and how the board game industry works from the inside.
Please support your Open Source projects. I did a small contribution because their work is really important, preventing older computers from getting obsolete.
After some research, I learned of the existence of the OpenCore Legacy Patcher project that allows you to install newer MacOS version on officially unsupported devices. I did that yesterday and it's working flawlessly!
All my video projects where already migrated to DaVinci Resolve 20. No backups for the newer ones.
So time to cry. And improvise.
This week I was having problems with DaVinci Resolve 20 crashing every 4 to 5 minutes.
After checking the debug logs, it turns out it was calling a hardware acceleration API that is not available on "older" versions of MacOS.

I wonder if you'd be interested. My wife and I run a small board-gaming YouTube channel. I've been playing some of your games and loved the experience.
I hate those "order of operations" posts where people post an equation and try to feel smart "because PEDMAS."
In most cases, you can write these equations in a way that has zero ambiguity. That would be the smart thing to do, in the first place.
@lostwaysclub.itch.io Hi Ella, I was wondering if you have any interviews you've done? I've been searching online and haven't found any.
Luckily, I haven't done it alone. Iβve been surrounded by people who support me and help me improve. I appreciate that patience. It makes all the difference.
And I have the background for it. Iβve written professionally since I was 18 and spent years as a professor, but always in Spanish. The challenge wasn't the work itself, I had to learn how to translate not just my words, but the confidence I had built over years.
I didn't ease into it. I was thrown in the deep end, writing and presenting professionally from day one.
One specific challenge is that English has "deep orthography". Word spelling and how it sounds isn't always consistent.
I often know exactly how to use a word because Iβve read it a thousand times, but I don't know how to pronounce it. If you hear me say it wrong, tell me. I value the feedback.
When I started working fully in English, I felt intimidated. It takes a specific kind of energy to work in a second language.
I know I have an accent, but I've learned to appreciate it. It's a reminder that I am stepping out of my comfort zone. It shows effort and commitment, and I am proud of that.
Sometimes I feel like after 2019 we slipped into an alternate reality where nothing makes sense. Everything is falling apart and everything (the economy, society, technology... you name it) seems to be speedrunning enshittification.
Sometimes they ask me if I have something to hide. I don't.
Just remember that privacy is the necessary space for freedom, dissent, and social progress.
In the end, to be surveilled is also to lose the space where you can be yourself.
Loss of privacy is also part of enshittification.
People are usually weirded out about my home network setup. A network-level VPN + PiHole with encrypted upstream DNS + firewall to prevent hidden telemetry. It's not perfect, but it's ok-ish for most cases.
Plus, I use ProtonMail and DuckDuckGo. And some browser tweaks to prevent fingerprinting.
