The Museum never sleeps! Demonstrating how to pin beetles and flies for entry into the NHM collections and spreading the good word on just how great and important insects are for the health of the Earth.
Looking forward to Coleopterists Day on Saturday 21st. Itβs not too late to drop all your weekend plans and head over to the excellent World Museum Liverpool for a day of beetle talks and behind the scenes at the entomology collection πͺ²
With over 400,000 described species, Coleoptera represent one of the most diverse groups of organisms on Earth, necessitating a global, integrative approach to understanding their evolutionary history. m.youtube.com/watch?v=Pg47...

Itβs been a very wet few weeks in the UK β but weβre far from the rainiest place on Earth! β
The Amazon is around twice as wet, as the forest helps generate rain. This rainfall is worth billions to Brazil's economy, which might help stop deforestation.

Merry Christmas! π And a festive beetle baubleπͺ² I didnβt collect this beetle in Costa Rica this year, it collected me, attempting to nest in my hair! A very special experience. This is scarab chafer in the aptly named genus Euphoria, as itβs true I was euphoric or have met it.
Beetles are astonishingly diverse: 400,000 species and counting. A major new project aims to build the most comprehensive beetle phylogeny ever, mapping 100,000 species to reveal their evolutionary history.
