Some strategies work well for a while (i.e. using LinkedIn events) but then there is a change on how things are done, and the benefit of it vanishes.
Writing good copy - with a proper description of what the post is about - with good keywords - is a perennial.

Good stuff. Previously I was fairly ambivalent about "m33tup" (I like that btw) - but now the price increases coupled with the lack of actual activity on it means that the #rstats community need to get off it a soon as possible
I reckon we are paying 6 figures sums for the 2 pro networks.
Does anyone in the #rstats world use luma.com for events?
PyData is reportedly off-ramping off meetup - and several chapters are trying luma out
SGH Warsaw School of Economics is one of the key venues for UseR! 2026.
I really liked Warsaw and am really looking forward to the Conference.

In case anyone has noticed or cared - I started using substack over last year.
Don't follow my lead.
I am off-ramping from it - but will finish things I have started there for the next while.
I am going to try out ghost.io instead.

What makes a good (well resourced) programming language community?
Brand Recognition!!
youtu.be/ePBxm3V2_0E?...
Better funding for SatRdays would be better
From the Organizers point of view that makes sense.
It doesn't do anything for the R brand though - which is presumably the point from the RCs point of view
( not the most pressing concern here )

A Local R group had last event in 2021: 5 full years ago.
(Not Dublin R - which was deleted from Meetup)
A Florida R User Group is basically a "cuckoo" - never had one event related to R ever.
Serious money being wasted

For #rstats
RUGs - 98 Chapters
R-Ladies - 248 Chapters
A naive estimate is that the combined cost of this is 200,000 USD a year.
Many chapters are active and should continue to be supported. Others are dormant, some for years, but are still an expense.
Why Meetup.com is slowly dying #meetup
Meetup Pro accounts cost a lot of money for each and every group, but people are using it less and less.
Time to talk about moving away for it for the #rstats and #pydata communities
