Theres loads of great poetic words with the correct specific meanings to use, we don't have to make music writing boring. But it does matter.

Not all Indian music is Ragas, 'sampled' and 'synthesized' are not interchangeable words for 'electronicly generated', 'drone' doesn't mean 'has sub-bass'. Etc etc.
Reading a book about music and... I get the need to use evocative words when you're describing sound. But maybe it needs to be proof-read by someone who knows what the words mean. For the avoidance of doubt, you can't blindly use 'syncopated' as a synonym for 'rhythmic'. You can't use 'swung' either
Thanks to everyone who came out to see us on tour, chatted after the show and pre-ordered my new album.
Gallants is out on April 24th. Link in bio!
Really enjoyable time spent listening to @jimmoray.bsky.social in Aldershot last night plus a lovely opening set from #MazOConnor & I hope to see them both again at some point. πΈπΆπ #LiveMusic #SupportLiveMusic #SupportGrassrootsVenues #Play2All

Iβm just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.
The Tiger by Nael, age 6 From 'They're singing a song in their rocket' The tiger He destroyed his cage Yes YES The tiger is out
Is it national poetry day? Time for this masterpiece
The common sense meaning should make this Elon Musk's "rivers of blood" moment
Though I think he goes further than Enoch Powell in a couple of important ways
People wonder why the BBC only showed Live Aid on BBC2, but what nobody remembers now is that there was an all-day concert on BBC1 raising money to make the famine much worse, for balance.
And, ironicallyβ¦
Are you aware of David Stubbsβ previous writing? He had a column called βMr Agreeableβ in Melody Maker in the 90s, I.e. heβs been abusing Oasis in this style a since the very beginning.
Image from the Financial Times, placing Keir Starmer next to Enoch Powell.
Starmer's language was deplorable.
It was grotesquely offensive, accusing people who have brought their gifts to this country of doing "incalculable" "damage"; & politically foolish, in endorsing Farage's claims of an establishment conspiracy.
But bad analogies with Powell miss the key problem. π§΅
I never thought the βthatβs not what I voted forβ would catch up with me.
He was the most Ringo-like of 70s/80s drummers, he always did his hair like that, and always had one rack tom. youtu.be/VQLZ2guM2RI?...
A couple of years ago, when The Waterboys headlined @folkbytheoak.bsky.social the backstage area had emptied out in the run up to them going on leaving just a few of their guests. As I walked through I spotted Clem Burke sitting on his own. I probably should have said something to him.
I just misread it as "Richard Dawson's House Of Games", which would be quite something. I'd watch.
Throwing it forward to January/February 2026. Tickets on sale now from www.jimmoray.co.uk. Perfect Easter gifts/summer birthday present/Christmas presents depending on when you get them.
Oh yeah. That one is good to be fair. And actually, we have a fondness for Mr Muddle - makes a friend who persuades the whole town to make reasonable adjustments to allow him to participate in society.
Thereβs only two stories too - Mr Man decides to get a job and has variety of unsuitable jobs before finding one. OR Mr Man encounters a wizard/gnome who decides to teach him a lesson. Just different degrees of βand you would, wouldnβt you? Which you might. If you did, wouldnβt it?β clunkiness
But itβs a bit like feeling grateful that a venue is providing a nice meal in the venue restaurant instead of a buy out, without noticing that thereβs βΒ£100 hospitalityβ hidden in the show costs.
Any way to independently verify? I feel likeβ¦ artists often feel like itβs surprise bonus money every quarter and they should be grateful for anything at all.
Yeah. A common thing seems to be that shows self-reported with their setlist tool get stuck on βprocessingβ and never paid. Iβve got some from 2017 still pending.
That totally fits. Every time Iβve had to contact them in the last decade has been really infuriating, so Iβm quite down on them in general.
Some of the answer re: music podcasts is PRS not offering a suitable licence, and being very slow to adopt to online usages in general. Andrew Harrison mentioned this briefly on a recent podcast about the future of podcasts.
Today is a rare music gig. The guy who recorded the track we used for our First Dance @jimmoray.bsky.social
I guess they just thought 6 year olds would be familiar with the first stages of nazism without needing to explain that bit.
Random thought : I went to a CofE primary school (which in practice just meant that we had a vicar lead assembly every week). I remember being read the βFirst they came for theβ¦β poem, andβ¦ somehow internalising it as being about the importance of patience and waiting your turn?

Top night with Amelia Coburn and @jimmoray.bsky.social at The Greystones. (On a school night too...)
I wasn't in a going-out mood last Saturday but I'm glad I made the effort for a lovely evening listening to Amelia Coburn and Jim Moray at Gulliver's. Intimate and warm.
