Unfunded inclusionary zoning mandates are de-facto taxes on new housing that worsen the housing shortage because they require homebuilders to rent or sell a percentage of their new homes at a loss.
Funded inclusionary zoning, on the other hand, is a great tool to economically integrate new housing.

The Tinder-ization of the job market
Why nobody's getting hired in a "good" economy
I have a new piece in The Argument.
We haven't (yet?) seen AI affect the labor market by increasing number of people who are unemployed - but there's reason to believe it's contributing to a stagnant labor market by making firms less willing to hire.

Remember what I said about how, when Trump is flailing, they start inserting a fake, fictional Trump into their stories, who is acting rationally and sanely?

Amazing how many people are so determined to deny that Republicans have any power or agency that they will just tweet out that they would fail a junior high civics class

Platner vs. Stratton
Do we want progressive policy or anti-establishment branding?
wrote about the very different progressive media approaches to Platner and Stratton, and how anti-establishment branding tends to overwhelm all other issuesβwhich is bad for advancing progressive policy and tends to hurt candidates who aren't white men. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/platner-vs...

This is murder. ICE routinely deposits released detainees far from their home just to be cruel. Itβs standard practice. To do this to a blind man on a wet cold winter day in Buffalo is to know you are potentially sending him to his death.

Opinion | Donβt Look Now, but the Green Transition Is Still Happening
"The project of greening the worldβs energy systems certainly feels as if it has been thrown into reverse. But by the most straightforward measures, thatβs simply wrong. There is more green stuff being installed than ever"

"Just making s**t up" β David Roberts sounds off on the EPA
"To say members of Congress didnβt anticipate a specific pollutant is just f**king comical."
New in PN: "Just making s**t up" β @volts.wtf sounds off on the EPA
βHow the f**k are they going to do that? If you can get the Supreme Court to rule carbon is not a danger to public health, it will mark the point at which they have abandoned all pretense, because thatβs just a flat out lie.β

This is, bluntly, incredibly dumb. The Inflation Reduction Act didn't put us on par with the rest of the world, it had us leading the word, temporarily. The fact that environmental groups just go hummed its ending is exactly why it's hard to take any of them seriously

Biden was the most economically progressive president since LBJ at least, he pursued a full-employment economy at huge political risk, it worked spectacularly.
And what happened is that the entire progressive universe decided that he must not have done any of it, or else he would have been popular
