@duolingoverde.bsky.social , we would LOVE a Spanish version of Duo ABC!!
While I'm at it, my Dual Language Immersion students use Duolingo Spanish and it'd be great if they could access Math on Chromebook too

These rules prevent "bad screen time" and also keeps him from accidentally jumping, say, to my Instagram app, which he does regularly using gestures.
He now points out sight words in books and can sound things out

Loving Duolingo ABC for my 3yo, teaching him Eng phonics, sight words, & writing
It's his 1st experience using my phone, so a few ground rules:
- sit w/ me where I can see the screen
- structured, firm stopping points
- I jump in & guide him so he learns to do it right

Include numbers and letters in your child's play culture and they will enjoy, well, playing with them! Learning them won't be a chore.

Do toys that mindlessly babble teach kids not to listen? π€
Looking at you, VTech...
It's not right to ask teachers to choose between their personal lives and making up for a curriculum's shortcomings.
The district is relying on people who "don't mind putting in the time". No, we work as long as we're paid for and what gets done gets done. Your data isn't my problem at that point
If the provided curriculum is not appropriate for our students then as a district, it is your responsibility to provide us with one that is whether that means you make it or you find a new one to buy.
... Because each lesson should be written specifically for your class (umm isn't this what we do with all curriculum though? Modify it for each class' needs?)
4. Yes our district is the lowest performing in the county
... Can we make some inferences here??
What I was told by a district person today:
1. We know the curriculum is trash
2. You should still use it but modify it heavily
3. No we won't help you create/modify all these lessons even though we have a better view of how concepts progress vertically through the grade levels & have the time...
If you have to go to traffic school for a violation, #parents should have to go to parent school if they can't get their kids to school (which legally is neglect) and other similar violations
NEA joins #ICEOutSchools campaign, urging solidarity with immigrants on January 23 by wearing blue and sharing supportive messages. Includes social media hashtag ICEOutSchools and a call to declare schools, churches, and hospitals as protected spaces.
Wear blue tomorrow, January 23, as a visible sign that we stand togetherβacross state lines and across communitiesβin support of safe, welcoming public schools where children can learn without fear. #ICEOutSchools
Loving all the blue weβre seeing from folks here in Minnesota and across the country today! Keep the solidarity coming!
Every child deserves to attend a safe, welcoming public school, but that cannot happen with ICE agents circling school buildings and bus stops #ICEOutSchools π

It's not easy but I try
Billionaires have their money because they've found a way to make us believe we need them, whether that's connection with social media, convenience with shopping, etc.
So I try to find ways to avoid giving them my money, whether I make something myself, delete accounts, or find a mom & pop

Brotherhood of Steel: We are sworn to never do harm to another brother!
Also Brotherhood of Steel: FIGHT CLUB TO THE DEATH!!!
(so confused by that last scene)
A small brown bunny nestled in a rectangular gap of a brick wall.
She didn't open her email, didn't use my bitly link. So all of my hard work was a complete waste.
They did the homework sheets that had been run off and then IDK what else. So now we're a day behind on everything when we're short on time as it is.
All this while grieving.

If y'all have ever wondered why #teachers just can't call in sick, yesterday I had a family emergency and called out. I spent over an hour preparing everything in a Slides presentation and even had the peace of mind to get a sub who I knew and trusted.

So glad I pay for Hulu/Disney+ so that my toddler can watch 4-5 commercial cuts in 30-minute Frosty the Snowman. Really wanna make sure he gets that dose of capitalism
It honestly goes back to what I keep saying. Get kids off devices and out experiencing life.
I say that as a gamer, as someone with a Master's in Ed Tech. I like technology, but also recognize the danger overexposure holds for developing brains. We're seeing it every day, everywhere
Because they still can't remember to capitalize their I etc. They still can't tell us what a noun or verb is.
But they're being taught it. The conclusion is, it's not the teachers' fault. So what can we do?
There's this thing going on in #education lately where kids don't retain anything. I teach 6th and it's easy to think, "why aren't the prior teachers teaching this stuff?"
I was in a 2nd grade classroom recently and she had the exact same poster on capitalization as I have in my room
π§΅
Anyone who wants to say #teachers are not professionals is welcome to come sub in a class for even one day and we'll see how they feel about it
Everything this man says makes me think of Animal Farm... Just keep changing the rhetoric to make it look like everything was part of the plan thanks to you ...
My 6th graders are too young for it but I hope higher grades are reading it!!
As #parents and #teachers, we set boundaries.
When a child crosses that boundary, we give fitting consequences that increase in severity with repeat transgressions.
They may make us feel bad or mean, but it's what they need in order to learn. Enough of this fear of upsetting someone.
The #teacher takeaway? We're teaching as much vocab as we can, explicitly and incidentally, as well as giving strategies like identifying word parts to help them figure out meaning
The #parenting takeaway: talk π to π your π kids
Read with them. Go places and make observations. Limit screen time and choose something educational for that limited time.
Kids are coming to school with less than ever before and something HAS to change. Schools can't do everything.
I was at a training on vocab instruction and the Matthew Effect came up.
Kids who enter school with a high vocab are able to learn new words more easily. Those with lower vocab have a harder time learning more, so the gap widens.
