New paper out! We review the effects of soil biodiversity on ecosystem functioning: www.nature.com/articles/s44...
Very happy to see my first PhD chapter being published π€
Take a look if you are interested in how tree species richness and mycorrhizal associations affect soil multifunctionality on a small scale π³π³
Luckily these feelings go well with Christmas cookies <3
PhD's log:
How to finish writing your thesis
1. Open the Word doc
2. Procrastinate for 3 months with a new hobby
3. Write a paragraph of the introduction
4. Procrastinate for 3 months with a new hobby
5. Stress finish everything in 3 weeks
Illustrated artwork showing five different wild cat species in a tropical setting. From largest to smallest: a brown mountain lion (puma), two spotted jaguars, an ocelot with distinctive orange-brown markings, and a small spotted wildcat. The cats are arranged in a naturalistic scene with palm fronds, red flowers, and other tropical vegetation in the background. The composition shows the relative size differences between these feline species native to the Americas.
Latin Americaβs feline species are losing their habitat and becoming trapped in small patches. Researchers say biological corridors are vital for their conservation. π

π³ Tree placement matters! A new study shows forests with diverse, non-clustered species boost biomass (+11%), nutrient cycling and decomposition.

One for lab meeting!
Congratulations πΎ
Boreal forests have been experiencing both gains and losses in recent decades. Liu et al show that boreal forest resilience is more sensitive to forest cover losses than to gains, indicating that functional declines due to forest loss outpace improvements following forest recovery.

Plant diversity increases above- and below-ground ecosystem functioning and their phenological synchrony, but effects on traits vary across seasons.
