In the video of Trump talking to the US men's hockey team, when he says "I must tell you, we're going to have to bring the women's team, you do know that" as a joke about how annoying it is to have women around, the most painful part for me, are all the hockey players laughing. Actually laughing.
4. This AI slop-factory-output is easy to detect this year. In a few years we are going to be overwhelmed with AI slop bullshit, but it will be difficult to detect. It will be a tsunami of fabricated crap, increasingly more difficult to distinguish from the good, honest research. SMH.
3. But none of the references hit in google.scholar. I checked 10 of them; all were fabricated. Mash-ups of authors, with word salads drawn from real publications, stapled to a real journal. But all fictitious. The best one? "T.O. Decker" who I presume is Scott Decker's little known brother?
2. That IRB statement? "This study was approved under IRB 2023-11225." So my spidey sense was already on full-tingle. And then I got to the reference section. Of the 50+ references, ALL of them were published in 2023 or 2024. ALL. OF. THEM. The authors you'd expect were cited. The title looked legit
1. Just reviewed a manuscript for a CJ journal that was, I am 99% certain, AI generated. The writing was grammatically correct yet clunky and awk. IRB state assurance was wedged into the data analysis section. Bold statements "no study has ever done the thing..." yet vague on details.

I saw somewhere that DC has now gone a week without a homicide which, for context, is the 7th time DC has gone 7+ days without a homicide so far this year (longest stretch was 17 days).

I recall that a Boston patrol cop's work diary from the 1800s was found (hidden is a wall, methinks) and later published. I saw a citation to it somewhere, but the details escape me. Not sure this counts as a memoir. I will dig around my office today.
The African American History museum is incredible. I highly recommend anyone go see it. It’s a powerful look at the history of a group of people that have a large and often overlooked, and hidden impact on American history.
