oh that is awesome, well deserved! congrats @ocornut.bsky.social
kinda but not in a conventional/3d sense: tthink of the line as a ball of 32D spaghetti; it tries to find a slowly shifting 2d 'projection' that best shows it, and orthographically projects from 32d->2d. so a kind of camera, but no step is 3d
Screenshot showing skin with micro-occlusion at the top, and micro-shadowing below.
I finally wrapped up the second post on the series about micro-shadowing. On this one I go over a basic approach based on a microsurface, and I show results for different materials and lighting conditions.

magnificent
im feeding these pics to my partner who is now tasked with finding siberian #4 or else
also this guy - this guy is the menace. ๐ฏ naughtiness 24/7.
:) i leave that to my 12yo :) he makes clay villages
lol
yeah motionflow 'whats a few frames between friends'. dreams had 1khz usb polling for performing the instruments (like rockband) and <256 sample latency at 48khz and then... SORRY IM A TV I WILL SIT ON THIS FRAME K THX BYE
i remember tv soundbars totally f***ing this up too lol
interesting! thanks so much for the wisdom :) i never realised it might be so much. super interesting
(i was originally thinking about ways to classify rhythms and textures, but this viz happened by mistake along the way, lol)
yeah i felt the same way! its actually based on a super smeared view of the sound, so its also totally legit i think. its like it was drawn with very fat market pens, i should totally eyeball a different 'centerline'! thanks for the nudge
the scene around it is really welcoming too! i made myself a live coding/visuals tool so i could figure out how strudel works by reimplementing the language. eye opening :) i still suck at it but enjoyed playing a couple open mic slots last year...
here's a longer example where it transitions from spoken word into repetitive music. the looping patterns at the end was what i was originally after... (soundtrack from the awesome soundcloud.com/attlas/story...

last night was a super fun & inspiring-as-ever algorhythms night. having filled up on live-coded inspiration, I ended up walking home from peckham to central london late(ish) at night with headphones on. fully 100% the thing burial always talked about as inspiration right there, iykyk.
i just hacked it together this afternoon, so not quite yet but I might clean it up a bit and make a realtime version (its janky python script + js mess). i'll see what I can do!
for those curious, i just take a mel spectrogram at 10ms intervals (32 freq bins), concatenate it with timeshifted copies of itself at 10,20,40,...640ms apart, giving a high dimensional 'rhythmic fingerprint'. PCA->32D globally, then at viz time pca->2D in a 10 second window. voila, squiggly line :)
i was daydreaming about a way to do rhythmic fingerprinting, but found it was fun on spoken word and made a little visualizer that accidentally looks like graf writing... @colormotor.bsky.social might like it :) (sample is edward murrow speaking against mccarthy-ism in 1954, fwiw)
You can now visualize how a color palette distributes across OKHsv, OKHsl, OKLCh and CIELab, and compare 6 distance metrics side by side. Zero dependencies, raw WebGL2.
Took me 3 years to make something I wasn't too embarrassed to share ๐

can i have a cat like that please thanks
code is bad
the live coding scene is 100% the thing that has made me most excited over the last couple of years: seeing people perform actually live music with computers, as free as jazz, freer, showing their screen, sharing what they're doing with an audience who understand what they're doing has felt so...
your goddess of skiing is called 'damage'? oh you vikings. :)
good cat name tho!
remind me their names? the tired one from yesterday was very popular in this house from photo alone :)
yes x3 :)
when i awoke this morning, i opened my eyes to TJ towering over me, serving her best 'feed me' look. meanwhile Ishi (the naughty baby boy) took the more direct approach of 'dig at the covers while sitting on his face until he damn well moves'
its been a loooong day :)
