Mapping the genetic landscape across 14 psychiatric disorders - Nature Genomic analyses applied to 14 childhood- and adult-onset psychiatric disorders identifies five underlying genomic factors that explain the majority of the genetic variance of the individual disorders.

A study in Nature finds that five groups of disorders share most of their genetic risk in a screen of 14 psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. The findings could help to improve diagnoses and lead to new treatments that work across several conditions. 🧬 πŸ§ͺ

Neuronal aging causes mislocalization of splicing proteins and unchecked cellular stress - Nature Neuroscience Rhine et al. find that neuronal aging leads to widespread dysregulation of RNA biology, including mislocalization of splicing proteins like TDP-43, chronic cellular stress and reduced resiliency.

Excited to share my postdoctoral research on how neuronal #aging contributes to RNA dysfunction is now online at Nature Neuroscience! Here we find that aged neurons suffer from chronic cellular stress that compromises resiliency to new stressorsπŸ§ͺ www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Lab-Grown Human Immune System Model Uncovers Weakened Response in Cancer Patients To betterΒ understand why some cancer patients struggle to fight off infections, Georgia TechΒ researchers have created tiny lab-grown models of human immune systems.

That's a really interesting system from Georgia Tech. Immune Organoids! The research team used synthetic hydrogels which can make a microenvironment for B cells, isolated from human tonsils and blood, to mature and produce antibodies.
